I have a new Acer laptop Windows 10 and was transferring data from a Seagate external 1 tb hdd when it ran out of charge. I restarted it and it said the transfer was paused. It wouldn't restart so I tried to cancel it, but now it is frozen and there is a black screen. I don't want to lose the data on the hdd. What can I do ?

Well, for one thing, you can try and be patient let it do it's thing and see if display is restored. For stuff of this nature, you should always be plugged in via the adapter/power brick or at the very least make sure you're not running low on power from the battery.

You wont loose the data on the portable HDD, so long as the OS hasn't dealt some kind of voodoo on both drives(internal and external).

Thank you, it took about 4 hours and the display suddenly reappeared. I didn't realize that it had been unplugged. I panicked for a while there. Thanks again for your help.
