Hello,

I have a problem with BSOD - DRIVER_POWER_STATE_FAILURE (9f).
Asking for help because this error is frustrating

I've been getting this error from the beginning when I assembled the rig.
All drivers and updates are up to date, including mobo BIOS, I scanned DISM, SFC and the problem still persists.

My specification:

CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 7600
CPU Cooler: ENDORFY Fortis 5 Dual Fan 140x120mm
Motherboard: ASUS ROG STRIX X670E-F GAMING WIFI
Memory: Lexar 32GB (2x16GB) 6000MHz CL30 Ares RGB
Storage: Lexar 2TB M.2 PCIe Gen4 NVMe NM790
Storage: Lexar 2TB M.2 PCIe Gen4 NVMe NM790
Video Card: Sapphire Radeon RX 7800 XT PURE 16GB GDDR6
Case: ENDORFY Arx 700 Air
Power Supply: be quiet! Pure Power 12 M 1000W 80 Plus Gold ATX 3.0

O/S: Windows 10 Home

Below is a link to GDrive, where I uploaded several dump files.

You say that all drivers are up to date but that's clearly not the case. All these dumps are 0x9F bugchecks - but for four different devices. Three of these are related to AMD audio devices (but different AMD audio components) and one is related to a Foxconn USB Bluetooth device.

The 0x9F bugcheck indicates that a device did not complete a power transition (from idle to running or vice-versa) in a reasonable time. This is either a device problem or a driver problem.

For the three AMD audio device bugchecks you most likely have chipset driver issues. Use the AMD Drivers and Support tool to look for updated AMD chipset drivers. Either that, or visit the drivers page for your motherboard and look for a chipset driver package there.

For the USB Bluetooth problem you will have to visit the website of the USB Bluetooth device vendor and download the appropriate driver from there - although it's quite possible that this is also a chipset driver problem and the USB drivers are not fully installed.

What @ubuysa said figures. I checked two of the dumps and it's bug check 0x9F and Parameter 1 is 0x3. Has to do with drivers and its power state not consistent with what it should be.

It also points to more than one device driver as said above.

However the dumps show your BIOS verion as 1709. There are three verions released later, namely 1807, 1904 and 1905. Descriptions say they include 'updates to the AGESA' and 'improve system stability'.

Updating the chipset is a good idea and actually a must to make sure system stability, I would also add that updating the BIOS to the latest version might not be a bad idea. Unless the 2 dumps I checked were made before you updated the BIOS. Do you have BIOS 1905 now?

One of the dumps I checked points to usbccgp.sys which I think is a generic Windows Bluetooth driver. I agree with @ubuysa on this too. Installing/updating the USB driver from the vendor might help with both issues.

All that said I would update to the latest chipset driver. You can get it from Asus website here and follow the installation instructions.

Thank you for your answer.

I still have the latest drivers installed, and even newer than indicated by the dedicated ASUS application - ARMORY CRATE (screenshot in the Gdrive folder; it is very strange). Of course, I downloaded the drivers from the ASUS website dedicated to this board.

Anyway I installed the latest software from the AMD website you indicated, but I couldn't find a specific Foxconn USB Bluetooth driver - there are a lot of them and I don't know which one is dedicated to me.

I hope it helps.
I will let you know if I managed to fix the problem, an additional problem is that the BSOD is unknown when it will occur, it may be in a few days or 3-4 times a day.

Thank you very much again.

No problem, glad to help if I can. Yes that's usually the nature of BSODs. If they happened while user does certain things the cau'se would be much easier to pinpoint. You said they started happening once you assembled the PC. Did you install Armory Crate right then too?

Armory Crate, the Asus application, has been known to cause a lot of issues itself. Unless you really need it I would not install (or now that you have) I'd uninstall it.

Few years back the utility made by Gigabyte (the name eludes me know) that came inside motherboards boxes on the DVD alongside drivers and what not used to wreak havoc with users' system. Causing all sorts of problems inclusing BSODs.

As far as I remember, I installed BIOS v.1905 on February 21, 2024, so dump files after this date are in the new BIOS. So far, after installing the latest drivers - as suggested by @ubuysa (apart from Foxconn USB Bluetooth) there have been no BSOD's since yesterday.

I had Armoury Crate installed from the beginning. In that case I uninstall this application. Perhaps this is the reason for the BSOD. We'll wait and see.

Yes I checked one of the latest dumps and saw that you're running the 1905 BIOS.

Glad your PC is in good working order and I hope the fix was the drivers @ubuysa suggested.
