Hi and thanks for reading my long post. I am on my wits end with my PC and need some advice :tired:

A couple of years ago I had this issue with my PC and it has come back recently (I do not know how it went away):
  • Applications were slow to load like browsers, documents, uploading documents etc.
  • Sometimes multiple applications took forever or would just not load.
  • Webpages can take a long time to load
  • The issue can be tolerable but can also make my PC very unusable, I would have to reboot and try my luck.
  • Sometimes it starts fine but ends up being unusable. Its quite sporadic.
  • Apart from the loading times things generally ran smoothly.
History of PC, Prebuilt around 10 years ago but since 2020 I have upgraded components myself over time. The only thing that wasn't upgraded was case, power supply, old hard drive.

Specs:
  • Windows 11 Pro
  • AMD 5600X CPU
  • AMD RX6600 GPU
  • 16GB RAM
  • M2, SSD + OLD Hard drive
  • PSU CX 750 Corsair
Things I tried:

SOFTWARE :
  • Virus Scan/ Malware check - Always came back clear, Tried Avast, Windows, Bitdefender (All free), I'm hoping its not a hidden malware.
  • Check task manager - usually memory <50% and CPU <10%, nothing causing wild fluctuations
  • Check CPU temp - Usually <50 degrees
  • Reinstalled Windows/ Upgraded Windows
  • Disabled services on start-up and disabled all non Microsoft services
  • Scanned missing registry - no issues
  • Configured browser settings
  • Installed all the correct drivers for hardware/updated drivers
  • Did a bunch of stuff in command prompt but cannot remember the details
Things I observed that might be the cause, in Ryzen Master, CPU Clock Speed would go from the low hundreds to max speed of 4,500 MHz once every so often on idle. It would also go to max speed when I open a new website etc. Usually core 1 or 3 would go to 4,500. I do not know if this is normal. CPU Volt stays around 1.2V but would dip once in a while to around 1-1.2.

For around a year I had no issues whatsoever, everything ran super smooth. My daily activities were mainly streaming, web browsing and the occasional Call of Duty Warzone.

One thing I did do recently which 'may' have triggered this slow down is I downloaded a game on steam, maxed out the graphics. whilst playing for 2 hours I did notice a lot of choppiness in gameplay. Not long after that I also decided to upscale some old family videos using AI which was also quite intensive on my PC.

HARDWARE:
  • Everything is relatively new apart from PSU, CASE and old hardrive.
  • I had an issue with motherboard so decided to upgrade that, the CPU and GPU at same time as well as M2 Hardrive.
  • Installed windows to new M2 hardrive, this was after I had the issue so I know there isn't a problem with the hard drive. Kept the old hdd and ssd drives, disconnected them to see if any issues but didnt change anything.
  • Upgraded CPU cooler and added better fans, not on floor so relatively dust free and cool.
  • Made sure RAM is sitting properly and OC them in bios for max speeds
The PSU is the only thing I can think of as it is from an older build, its a CX750. I cannot think of anything else. Perhaps CPU overheating but as I said we are looking at around 35-50 degrees idle with a limit of 95 degrees.

If anyone can advise or suggest something I have yet to do, thank you so much and god bless!

how full is the ssd?
planning on replace the hdd?

backup your data?
only 10% full
not planning to replace, just holds old photos videos and backup files

I have been observing my task manager and have finally found the culprit!

AMD RADEON: HOST APPLICATION

It doesn't take up too much CPU or RAM

When I close this, everything runs smoothly as before but the thing is that it comes back after a while once I close it or perhaps I triggered it to open back up again. Anyone know its use case and anyway to resolve this problem.

If that psu is 10 yrs old consider replacing it you more than got your monies worth.
