FS 2004 Getting past the flash screen

Almost same as the FS 2002 messag: I can not get past the
flash screen when I wish to enter FS2004. The system
tells me that it is no longer responding. I have
reinstalled several time. No change! Can anyone help?

My problem was that DirectX 8.1 wasn't being replaced by
DirectX 9, as needed for FS2004 to run. I couldn't make
this replacement work from the FS2004 CDs, but it did from
the MS website. Goto www.microsoft.com/downloads for
this. (This info came from the MS Online Assisted
Support, which worked very well in my case.)
