fs2004 update

Archived from groups: microsoft.public.games.zone.simulation (More info?)

hi me, continued -
Were you using the no-cd version of FS9.exe and did you
change it? The MS instructions seem to carry an ominous
warning regarding this.

Hey me -

Others are reporting problems when they try to run the updated fs9.1 with
the NOCD crack. Are you saying that after the update you can run it with the
NOCD fs9.exe?

Thanx,

Vic

hi Vic -
Yup. NoCD works fine. Only thing extra needed, as 'me'
reported, was an upgrade to FSUIPC 3.4.
The 27.4mb D/L took 1 minute and 49 seconds. The
installation less than 5. Got out my disk 4, just in
case, but it wasn't neeeded.
Everything seems to be working fine, and I think that
possibly, just possibly, FPS are a little better.
Drat... I have nothing to complain about.

No, no, no, the fs9.exe has been updated and you will miss several
important updates if you use the old cracked one, use the CD for now
or don't install the update...

hi Katy -
I'm sure that you've been better briefed on this than I,
but what I found is that the upgrade did install OK with
the NoCD fs9.exe in place. If fs9.exe has itself been
updated, would it not overwrite the previous file?
I am aware that MS made the same comments, and this leads
me to wonder what features may not become functional?

sam , vic , katy,

i unstalled and re-installed update according to update web site.
(copy\pasted backup original fs9 application)

i see bridges as listed with both no cd install and suggested install
procedure. still don't see fps improvement.

that was easy enough to fix (though i can't see a difference), i feel for
the people who have downloaded megabytes of scenery files, that may cause a
problem.

Are you absolutely sure of this? What is the version number (file
properties) of your current fs9.exe? The update has always refused to
install on the no-cd crack version, it modifies original files to keep
the patch size reasonable and do not simply replace them, if it
installed over modified exe or dll the update *is* incomplete...

hi Katy -

I have now tried it both ways. In neither case is fs9.exe
itself modified. The upgrade went smooth as silk either
way, and I can find no difference in performance between
the two. It will probably be difficult to get a definite
statement regarding this from MS but I see this, as before,
a tussle between the engineers and the marketing people.
Do you find a new date on your fs9.exe file?

Best is to make a Virtual CDrom and run Disk 4 from your Harddrive
Thats if you have the Hard drive space

If you don't believe what I say... Their statement is written all over
the update download page and in the readme, what else do you need?

It's quite simple really, check the version number from the file's
properties:
fs9.exe English original 9.0.0.30612
fs9.exe English no-cd 9.0.0.30612
fs9.exe English update 9.1.0.40901

sam,

if you have any doubts if update installed correctly, do as i mentioned
below.

un-install update per instructions from
http://www.microsoft.com/games/flightsimulator/fs2004_update9.1_english.asp#overview

put back in original fs9.exe English original 9.0.0.30612

install update, now you should have fs9.exe English update 9.1.0.40901

then what i did was copy\paste fs9.exe English update 9.1.0.40901 to a
folder for later use, then re paste fs9.exe English no-cd 9.0.0.30612 .

all is well as far as i can see 🙂

hi again Katy and 'me' -
I have two installations of FS9 on different hard drives
with one set up using the NoCD fs9.exe and one with the
original. When I go to Help/About I get the same Ver 9.1
info in either one. I'll run both for a while and let you
know if I can find a difference. So far, I can't, but I
do believe FPS are slightly better in both than before,
and overall, everything seems to be working very well.
As before, durn it all - No complaints.
In the meantime, if you would like to see a comparison
run on any particular feature or charteristic, let me
know.

heh..
<found this conversation humorous>

Microsoft should support their cracked versions better ^_^
<digs around for cd 4>

I *really* hope FS10 doesn't require a cd. it just inconveinces the legit
users.

M$FT is researching the concept of putting a credit card
on a CD and will require that it be placed in the tray so
that they can charge you an hourly fee for FS10.

i must admit, the contrails now look alot cooler 🙂
