Does anyone have any tips on what video/display settings tax the
computer system the most in FS2004? I recently moved up to a new system
and I am still encountering same stuttering and slow downs when flying.
Here are the relevant parts of my new system.

AMD Athlon 3200+
1 GB Ram
7200 RPM 200GB Hard drive
nVidia 6800GT w/ 265 MB VRam

I am running FS2004 at 1024x768 (32 bit) with most graphics options
set to high, but not max. I usually fly helicopters and close to the
ground. I am finding that when I am in the virtual cockpit mode,
especially, I encounter a lot of choppy frame rates and freezes. I had
thought with this system I could turn all the graphic options to max
without issue but thats not what I am seeing. Are there any specific
graphic settings that effect performance the most? What sort of
performance should I be expecting from these system specs?

See my answer in: alt.games.microsoft.flight-sim.

Please accept my apologies. I posted the question to a different group
after reading a seperate post that suggested such questions would
receive a better response in "alt.games.microsoft.flight-sim". Thanks
for taking the time to answer.

Yes thank you Carl. You answer in "alt.games.microsoft.flight-sim"
was very helpful. I was able to find some links that talked about
shutting certain services off. What I would like to know is if my
expectations were off with my new computer setup. I didn't think there
would be any slow downs with FS2004. Makes me wonder if I do not have
something configured correctly. Thanks again for the help.
