FS2004 will not start

I have WinXP SP1. P4 3.2ghz machine. Latest nVidia
drivers for FX5900 card. Latest sound drivers. Microsoft
Update is up to date. DirectX 9.0a which FS2004 installed
for me. DXdiag does not show any DX problems. I don't
have nVidia helper service running. I tried every method
on the microsoft support site
(http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-
us;837195) and nothing helped. I even reinstalled.

I cannot find fs9.cfg. This file does not exist. I don't
hide files or folders and I searched everywhere. It does
not exist on my PC.

All I get when I start FS2004 is the little box telling
me to send error report to Microsoft. I have sent them
about 50 error reports.

Now, the game does some sort of starting up. It knows if
I have CD4 in or not. But I don't know what else it gets
to. I can run DOOM III with no problem at all.

Any ideas? Anybody have a fs9.cfg file I can have to try
to see if that helps?

Scott -

Try this link for info and it will tell you where the .cfg file is located

FS FAQ at http://www.simflight.com

Also, install latest DX 9.0c.

Did you update your motherboard chipset drivers?

Last, disable EVERYTHING not essential to starting the computer and try
running it. There may be a driver conflict with something else that is being
loaded.

hi Vic -

Noticed that you're suggesting DX 9.0c. Wonder if you
have made the change... and, if 9.0b is working, is there
any good reason for me to fix what ain't broke?

Hi Sam -

I'm not aware of any technical reason to do so. I tried it and there was no
apparent difference so I left it in. Unless someone has better info, I see
no reason to upgrade - as far as FS9 goes. However, some folks who have had
problems with FS9 have cured them by upgrading. Go figure.

hi Vic,

Being, at heart, a gambler... I plugged it in. Couldn't
detect any difference, so will leave it there.

Try to use another graphics card, less or equal to 128MB
video memory on it...

Maybe you just run into MS bug if you got a to fast video
card and with to much memory...

(CFS3 / HALO etc has this problem, mostly seen after you
upgrade to XP SP2 wich contains DirectX 9.0c....)

Or keep asking MS for a solution....
