While this device has been discontinuted and close to a decade old, if it was never used, sealed in box, would it still be as reliable the year it was initially put on the market? Or can any components, like capacitors, still degrad over the years without use?

Even if this unique PSU was not known to last due to hardware found in PSUs back then, if the thing lasts 2-3 years, that's good enough for me.

Why even bother with such a device? I have a Dell Precision T7810 tower that uses a slim switching power supply that docks into a PSU card that only has one 8-pin, which has a modular cable with dual 6-pin on the other end. So it's not something I can simply replace.

The FSP Booster X5 would be installed into the one 5.25" bay to power a Gigabyte GTX 980 Ti G1 with it's two 8-pin connectors.

Thanks

Thanks, just needed some reassurance. Though, the new one I was eyeing on eBay, I was out bid last second, doh.

A Frys has a similar VisionTek product still in stock about 70 miles away, but I read that one wasn't as well built and just a rebrand. Might be my only option for now, other than replacing the case, motherboard and PSU and lose a good 3 year system warranty.
