Fuji

16MB XD-MEMORY CARD vs 128MB XD PICTURE CARD

does anybody know a good url describing the differences
between these two items.

or does anybody know and feel like typing it all in for an
obvious digital noooobie.

it seems to me that anybody selling a camera with both
is just unloading a 16mb card which they can no longer sell

but there miht be other specific differences, maybe speed
of the card, that I am not aware of.

many many thanks

Well, the big difference is 112 Megabytes of picture space.
One Megabyte=1024 times 1024=1,048,576 bytes.

In simple terms, if one image uses 10 MB (MegaBytes) then the 16 MB card
will hold one image. The 128 MB card will hold 12 images. Memory
requirements vary with the Megapixels of the camera and the amount of JPEG
compression used.

A lot of digital cameras come with 16 Megabytes or less. The manufacturer
has to provide some memory card with their camera, so they use the minimum
memory that the largest resolution setting on that camera model requires for
one image.

I know the Fuji and Olympus xD cards appear to be made by the same company.
Both list by Toshiba on them on the back.

actually, i know about the capacity, i was just wondering if there were any
specific details
about PICTURE card; for example, it is unsuitable for use as video
capture device as
it is too slow ... hence the name PICTURE;

However, having read the Fuji press release, it seems obvious that anybody
selling a
DC with both formats is just getting rid of old stock of the 16mb Memory
card.

thanks
