Hi all,
As the title states, I have a weird issue with my RAM. For clarification:
I have a Ryzen 5 2600 Stock Cooler
MSI x470 Gaming Plus
G.Skill TridentZ (non-RGB) rated for 3200Mhz. Its a 16gb kit (2x8).
PNY XLR8 GTX 1060 6gb
Corsair CX 600
Things I've tried:
Different pressures on the CPU via the stock cooler.
Taking to a diagnostic shop (was really useless).
RMA'ing the motherboard (they tested and sent it back saying it was fixed and had no problems on departure)
RMA'ing the CPU (same as the motherboard)
Memtest x86 on each stick individually. They both test fine. (Can't test both together because when both in the system, it boots, but the full 16gb isnt detected in any dual channel configuration).
Reseating the CPU
Updating BIOS and redownloading all motherboard drivers.
Reinstalling Windows.
Things I can't try at the moment:
A different RAM kit. Its expensive and not viable for me to do right now.
I'm really not sure what the problem is here. If it isn't clear, here's a visual of how the PC reacts with each configuration:
Slot 1&2(single channel): Both detected, will run at rated speeds but with intermittent crashes, but obviously is worse because single channel
Slot 1&3(dual channel, not recommended in mobo manual): Only 8gb of RAM detected in BIOS and windows. Will not run faster than SPD (2133 Mhz)
Slot 2&3: Same as slot 1&3, but not dual channel obviously
Slot 2&4: Dual channel. Same as slot 1&3. Only 8gb at 2133Mhz
Slots 3&4, just 3, or just 4: No post, EZ debug led sits on DRAM light, no restarts.
Just slots 1 or 2: Works as expected.
Obviously would like to use my full kit in dual channel, but if that isn't a possibility, then which would be better to do, 8gb dual channel at 2133Mhz or 16gb single channel at 3200Mhz? This question is secondary to the overall question of: wtf is going on with this system.
