Question Full Disk with no files

Hello,
I've spent the past few hours trying to recover files from a disk. I've downloaded a bunch of apps and made it to show hidden files. I'm lost. Computers are a little out of my realm since I work on vehicles for a living but any advice is greatly appreciated! Also, the files were fine until I took my external hard drive from work to home. It worked fine at home but then acted weird back at work (said there was files to burn which were files i burnt to it 2 weeks ago..) and now doesn't work at home either... It shows that the disk is half full but when i go to open it there is nothing. Thank you

Hi USAFRet,

External hard drive is an HPGP70N. It's for my CD when I click on it to view files, everything is blank. I even tried it on my ASUS laptop and no change.

Oh, its a DVD, not an actual hard drive.

Might be just a faulty disc.
Hopefully that is not the only location for those files?

Yep, it's a disc. I have a backup but it's over a week old. I don't understand this since it says there data on the disk but it isn't there when I open it. Somehow there's a file there now that says "System Volume Information"

DVD's are not what one thinks of when we refer to 'reliability'.

Copy the data to another DVD and see what happens.

Ok, copied it to another DVD and it's the same. What a drag.

DVD quality has been going south for a while.
I've seen a box of 25, where 40% of them were basically unusable.
