Full of vertical lines on the monitor - Is it broken?

Today I started my PC and saw light grey lines all over the screen.
It's not just one line. There are like 150 vertical lines on my screen with perfectly equal space between them.

First I thought it was some software bug but I connected it to another PC and the lines are still there. I have reset all monitor settings and the problem is still here.

I couldn't photograph the problem so I tried to draw it in photoshop for you guys to see it.

As you can see instead of the white text background there are grey lines. It's the same in windows, skype, firefox even bios.

What can I do? What is the name of this error?

Hi,
1. Either the monitor itself has gone, but you can easily check this:
Can you temporarily borrow a monitor from a friend and hook up?

2. The graphics card has gone. Can you borrow another one from a friend, just to check?
Or do you have another graphics port on your computer, if so, switch graphics port (move your cable).

Then You should be able to tell which one is faulty, but my bet is the monitor and nothing to do but get a another one.

Btw. what computer do you have: manufacturer and model nr.

Try using a different cable to connect to the monitor, if possible. Does wiggling the cable or monitor change the lines at all? If it is showing the lines on different PCs using different cables then it sounds like the monitor is faulty. Is it new?

Thanks for the answers. As said I have already tried the monitor on another PC and the problem is the same. This means that the problem is not from my PC, GPU or software. So I guess it's from the monitor.

I have also tried another cable and another port (tried HDVI and VGA).

Monitor is almost 3 years old. luckily I still have 2 months of warranty

I would quickly try to get it replaced under the warranty if I were you. Good luck! 🙂

Yeah that's probably what is going to happen. I am still waiting for 1-2 days, maybe some miracle happens.
