Full screen forces lower resolution

Hey everyone! I'm having a problem that is trampling on my nerves. I have a LG TV connected via HDMI cable to my desktop PC and duplicating displays. I noticed that when I switch to true full screen mode in any program or video game it changes from 1080p to some low resolution (probably 1024x768 or some such) and I can't seem to find what's the problem. When I turn the LGTV off in Nvidia Control Panel full screen works normally as it should. Also, when I switch to some other display regime like "extend these displays" the full screen resolution doesn't change.
What could be the problem? I would really appreciate some solution, it's really a hassle.

I'm running Windows 10 and my GPU is a GTX 970.

Thanks in advance.

if you duplicate your display, the resolution also gets duplicated. The only way for you getting the full resolution on your LG is to extend the displays and change the resolution of that display in Control Panel

I just did that and both are set to 1920x1080. It used to work as it should, displaying on both panel the TV and the monitor the resolution I choose. The worst thing is, it shows everywhere as if 1920x1080 is selected even though the resolution is clearly lower in full screen applications. Am I missing something?

Then the settings in the full screen applications are forcing your display to a lower resolution. Its also possible that in older applications the resolution is fixed or cant go higher than 1080p.

It was working a few weeks ago, let me explain step by step my issue. For example, my display is set to duplicate. Everything's fine on desktop, the resolution is 1920x1080 on both the TV and monitor. Now, I start Metro: Last Light or Prison Architect, the games start in true full screen, not borderless full screen. The resolution is very low, I get into the options menu and there it says that the resolution is set to 1080p even though it's clearly not.

Oh, my God... I crapshooted the hell out of it and finally found out by showing the desktop while in full screen and clicking on display settings the stupid Windows 10 scaling was for some reason set to 175 percent. Thank you anyway, krapton, for trying to help me solve this stupid issue.
