I have an old Lenovo T61. I LOVE the feel of the keys. Just the right amount of click. When I first got it I thought, "now why in the world doesn't everyone make desktop keyboards that feel this amazing?!?!" But I do 99% of my work from my desktop Windows machine and I very much dislike compact or unusual key layouts.
I've been using computers for a very long time. My typing class in high school was on an IBM Selectric if that tells you anything 😛. There was a when I thought I'd only like the old tank style heavy click mechanical keyboards like the first DOS computer I had in the early 90's. But I really love the low profile light mechanical feel of my T61.
So I'm trying to find something with that feel and style of keys but in a full size keyboard with the classic layout, like the Logitech MK120 for example. Size and location of the arrow keys and insert/home/delete/end/pgup/pgdown keys must be the old style layout. Backlit would be really nice but I'm not a gamer so I don't need disco colors. LOL. I'm a programmer and I'll often work late at night.
Right now I have the Logitech K750. The layout and size are fine. The profile of the keys are fine. There's no click at all but the action is okay. It's not spongy at all. I can feel the keys. It could be a little better though. It's also solar and because of where I work that can be a problem sometimes.
I'm fine with a wired keyboard. In fact I sort of prefer it but it's not a must. Just no solar this time around. And it would be nice to get something that doesn't have decal's on the keys. Several on mine have worn off completely. The little locator nub on my "J" is totally worn down so sometimes my right hand ends up shifted over. 😛 It would also be great to have a keyboard that has lights for Num Lock, Scroll Lock, and Caps Lock. This one doesn't have those and it can be annoying.
I'm also fine with weird and interesting as long as it fits my other needs. For example the AZIO MK RETRO MK-Retro is very cool looking. The Logitech K800 might be okay too. But without driving all over the place to try them out, and not likely being able to find most of the ones in stores that I can buy online, it's like trying to find the perfect pair of running shoes but there are WAY more actual shoe stores near me than computer stores. 🙁
All of these requirements seem pretty logical to me so I don't know why I'm having such a hard time finding the right one. If I could find something really great I have no problem spending up to $150 but I'd prefer to keep it under $75. I'm not looking for a $20 keyboard.
Thanks
