full SSD swap

So my 500 gb SSD I use for games is full, the OS is on a 256 M.2 can I just copy and paste the data on my 500 gb SSD to a HDD and just put a few games on the SSD I use often ?

not sure how this works with steam or Origin

can say steam be on the M.2 drive and games I play a lot on the SSD and games I don't play a lot be on the HDD ?

Solution

If the 500GB SSD is just a secondary drive, yes, you can do that.

With Steam games, its pretty easy. You can have games live on whatever drive you choose.

On the HDD, create a folder.
Call it MyGames
On the 500GB SSD, find the SteamApps folder.
Under that is your games.
Select whichever ones you want on the HDD, Copy/paste over to the MyGames folder.

In the Steam client, designate that...

Steam Library Folders
