First off please note I did not say flight sim; though I respect the dedication of gamers who fuss with trim and pitch and fuel mixtures, I just wanna have fun flying and preferably shooting at something!

Playing with a decent enough stick, the Logitech Extreme 3D Pro, and some games I've tried are Battle Angels, Wings of Prey and Ace Combat Assault which are all fun enough, but nothing's quite grabbed me.

Perhaps it's arcade style I'm thinking of though I'm not enough of a gamer really to know what that means--even if Steam claims I've been playing Borderlands 2 now for over 1400 hours.

Any just plane fun (couldn't resist that) flying games y'all might suggest?

Thanx for the width,
m

I got one for ya! Its free to play and is on steam. Its called War Thunder. Involves bombing, shooting and flying. Has arcade and campaign modes. Also doubles as a mmo.

Try World of Warplanes.

They currently have two standalone games (World of Tanks/Warplanes) released, both are free to play but have microtransactions, and you fight vs other players in their own planes.

Long term they are planning a third in the series (warships) and eventually to combine the three into a single game with people playing tanks, planes, or warships.

Thanx all for these thoughtful tips. G'd WarThunder and got their site and the game's d'loadable. 7gig file so it will be a few hours before I see what's what but there was no overt mention there of Steam.

World of Warplanes sounds kool, likewise Hawx.

Grateful to you--and will letcha know how it goes,

If you go on steam it should be there. I have it on my steam.

Finally got WarThunder going and it looks like they're using their own servers and bypassing Steam. Wish I could get past the opening training session--but I spent nearly half an hour calibrating my joystick and when the game finally starts I get only a few seconds into it before I'm failing so badly it starts over.

Can respect this attention to detail and accuracy but I haven't really signed up for a pilot's license yet and right now just wanna have fun.

Ikaz suggested wisely that I post games I do enjoy and I should correct my original post: the name of the game I'm OK at is Blazing Angels. Actually completed the test run and am flying real missions now.

Games that are too easy are quickly worn out and I know the harder it is the more fun it will be ultimately--but when they're so hard I can't even get started . . .

Someone elsewhere suggested PlanetSide2 and despite its being a sony offering I'm still somewhat interested if I can ever finish it's 9-gig d'load.

Again, thanx y'all for your thoughtful responses,
m
