Hello people!

I was wondering if you could help me with an issue I'm having...
Few days ago I was trying to install codecs for DivX in Win10, and while installing them, I accidentally clicked too much "accept". Not sure if i got the correct codecs, but suddenly i noticed on my desktop few applications with Chinese characters as names. After the "codecs" where installed, one of the apps started, and unpacked itself and i had some Chinese popups...
I believe i deleted everything i could through control panel, but today i noticed that some files have funny extensions... (see pic)

Anyone has an idea on how to remove them? Thanks!

I would sincerely appreciate your help! Thanks!

Sounds like you installed viruses on your computer.

The best course of action is to back up to a quarantine disk and then reformat.

If you want to risk having further damage, you can just remove the type info and context menu keys manually, but it's not recommeneded.

As for codecs, NEVER INSTALL CODEC PACKS. If you want to play any video file on windows, download MPC-HC. If you need codecs for software that doesn't natively support it (like media player), only download FFDSHOW or better yet, LAV Filter (http://www.videohelp.com/software/LAV-Filters)

I am Chinese, and those characters mean "Picture" or "Photo" It is a JPG file. Also, you installed some Chinese Photo opener. Therefore, the second circle in the right-click menu means "Use *Software Name* to open"

Personally, I recommend you do not install any Chinese photos. Firstly, the Chinese government does not care about your privacy. It might send confidential information to them.

JPG files can easily be opened by windows Photo Viewer, so you shouldn't have even decided to install that codec in the first place.

If you want to play videos in the format .3gp or .flv, then download VLC Player

You get a few of those in normal browsing. They are more prevalent on porn sites.

They should be deleted with normal browsing history. However some leave entries in the Registry. I don't recommend most 3rd party software, but CCleaner is very reliable. For deeper cleaning of the Registry, Wise Registry Cleaner is very safe. The only reason that I recommend it is that it finds registry entries that could be potential viruses.

I have found that even some leftovers from MBAM and SAS recoveries are found with these two.
