Sorry mate, looks like you got a 'surfing the net ' brick on your hands.
Probably not anything to salvage there, the psu is probably weak too and so on...
There are always people needing a surf-only computer, though, like your parents maybe. Nice present!

Although, if you slam a hefty graphics card in there you can still play most games, belive it or not. Don't belive all the hype rewiers who seem to be paid by hardware companys, the weak chain in the link today is almost always the graphics card.

I think people argue whats best bang for the buck, unless your Donald Trump you care about getting the best deal. Most experts today claim that AMD gives the best price/perfomance ratio today, maybe different tomorrow.

But what strikes me about this that as i understand your P4 is one of the best overclockers! You should easily be able to kick it up to 2,1 Ghz at least. Then it wouldnt suck so much....

Yeah, stupid Dell locked the BIOS settings, so I can't OC the sonofabitch.
stupid Dell actually 'sodered' their proc onto the motherboard so I cannot even change it! money sucking bastards! I'll never buy from them again!

I have a 5-year old P4 1.6ghz.
it sucks.

It could suck much worse though. Right now my home PC is a Pentium 166MHz laptop with 24MB of RAM and running Win95 and limited to a 256 color display. Try doing anything fun on that. :lol:

Strangely enough though, I still managed to easily get my DSL connection running on it. Plugged the ethernet into the router, set the laptop to use the network for internet, and was surfing again in no time. 😀 Not bad. M$ doesn't always suck.

Still, the hard drive slows it down so badly that it's barely even good enough for DSL. :lol: I really hope my computer wasn't too badly damaged in the fire. I'd like to get off of that darn laptop one of these days...

But be glad for your "5-year old P4 1.6ghz". It could be much worse.
