so ive been having a problem where if i play any game my pc shuts down and restarts. ive been trying to figure out whats causing this problem. there are times where i can play for hours without anything happening, then there are times where my pc restarts within 5 minutes of starting a game. i ran a cpu stress test and everything was fine. now im running furmark and as soon as i hit the start button my computer shuts down and restarts. could it be my GPU thats been causing my computer to restart while gaming? or my PSU? is there anyway for me to find out?
im about to swap out my gpu for my old gtx 570 to see if anything changes.

CPU: i7 3770
GPU: Sapphire R9 390 (not overclocked)
PSU: Corsair HX850

the thing with furmark is that it doesnt even start the test before my computer restarts. I push the start button and my computer immediately shuts down. the test doest even begin. Ive run occt and my PC has never shut down so I do not think that it is my CPU overheating.

another thing, i am not running an intensive game. I am running NBA 2k16. my gpu doesnt start to make noise or ramp up the fans to indicate that it is getting hot.

but I will try using afterburner

using msi afterburner I ran KOMBUSTOR for about 10 minutes and my temperatures peaked at 77C. my PC did not restart. does this mean that it could be my psu?

I'm only assuming it could be my psu since any game I play shouldn't put as much stress on my gpu as the kombustor test does. so it's probably not my gpu overheating right?

ok, since i was having trouble using a program to save any information on my cpu and gpu temps since it was an abrupt shutdown, i just used another monitor and put up both msi afterburner and core tempt to keep track of my gpu and cpu temps. then i just recorded that screen with my phone while i played the game.

my gpu was at 66C and my cpu core temps were

Core1: 45C
core2: 52C
core3: 56C
core4: 48C

so im pretty curtain that its not my gpu or cpu temps causing my pc to restart.

I'm having very similar, if not the same problem as OP does. If I run only "Dynamic background" option - no issue. If I select "Burn-in" option and click to start the test - instant shutdown. And as OP pointed out - core temperatures can be low during shutdown.

I've took the test because some games caused shutdowns. Newer game -> less time till shutdown. Funny thing, it doesn't matter what graphic settings are set for the game.
For example, I can play Battlefield 4 at high settings for hours till shutdown. And only few minutes with "Conan Exiles" on the lowest possible settings.
I'm begging to think that some particular graphical effects trigger the shut-down.

I have:
GPU: ASUS GTX570 DirectCU II
PSU: Energon EPS-750W
