Hey all, I posted a few days ago about a VR build. Life happened and I didn't purchase that day. By the time I replied further to the thread, I stopped getting replies, so pardon the new thread.

Long and short-- trying to build a VR ready PC (Occulus Rift). Set a budget of 1k originally, but have decided 1300 is absolute max. I've read a ton on new tech and confused myself thoroughly lol. Here are two different build options. I'm very open to suggestions. Also not sure if I need additional cooling? I do have a hard drive to toss in until we can upgrade it.

Solution
Fair enough, the builds you've posted are good. If you want to save some money swap the 2600X to the 2600 and the motherboard to a B450.

I'd probably go ITX, keep everything in a smaller tower, this way if you ever wanted to transport it the smaller size makes it easier. Also the motherboard has wifi.

Size doesn't matter. The kid is 13. We'll replace before college, so it'll be at a desk in his room, and it sits on the floor under the desk, so truly larger works better.

Which is a better build for VR? Is the 470/2600x more future proof then the 2600/450 or is it a wash? I know a 1080 is also an option for the GPU but am not sure whether it is needed?

I can't find a ton of info on the 2070 cards. I know they are new and I've looked at the clocking on them but there just aren't a ton of reviews yet. I am not sure there is enough difference between the 1070ti and the 2070 to justify the cost increase?

Is that case with the added fans a better option than the Phanteks?

The 2070 is a bit better then the 1070 ti and even 1080. I'd probably stick with the 2070 as it has a few new features over the 10 series such as Ray Tracing but nothing that currently effects VR. The build I just posted above is a bit cheaper then both and will game just as good.

It's what I'd get over the Phanteks but either is a good option. I just made my new build with the H500 and really like it, plenty of space to build in, good cable management and the cooling is decent considering it's the stock cooler.
