Fuse blown, Pc won't start, is it just my PSU or more?

I'll give the full story for more information.

For a very long time I had been getting a loud electronic buzzing noise from my PC when it was under heavy load such as playing games. It progressively got worse and buzzed more often and finally I figured out the culprit, I removed the internal speaker from the motherboard, I doubt this is related to the psu blowing but I thought I'd mention it.

Later that night as I was gaming my PC suddenly turned off and blew the mains fuse in my house. When I turned the fuse back on my PC wouldn't turn on. I was recommended just to change the fuse in the plug of the psu, this obviously didn't work. I have tried the paper clip test on my psu to see if it still works, it doesn't.

My question is, is it likely just my PSU that is broke or is my motherboard buggered as well? And what is a likely reason for this happening?

My power supply: Alpine 750w

Thank you.

This mean that there was short circuit in you PSU that blew your fuse. You PSU is gone as you mentioned. You will know if mobo is OK, only when you put new PSU. Why it happened?, who knows.

that is not a good PSU that's probably why it died. for a 750W psu only putting 38A into 12V gives you 456W of 12V power, given that most power is used from the 12V line you actually only have a 450W supply (in some sense). Plus the fact that it only has 1 pci-e x6 connector (most good 750's would have 4 6+2 pin PCI connectors), leaves me to think that the 750 is for bragging rights from alpine not for actual power production.

The above is assuming it is the 750W alpine that you find when googling.

As to what it took out when it died, no idea.

Do you know the likelihood of the motherboard blowing? I've been very nervous about this.

Yes unfortunately it is that Psu, would you have a recommended new one for less than £50?

Thanks

try to save an extra money to buy a reputable PSU such as seasonic, corsair, antec and the like.. I would rather not take risk for my components.. after all it's you who will benefit. I just bought Seasonic 620 watts modular 80plus bronze and it's perfectly doing fine with my components..

First Not so much to skinnyhaz - His system has already gone up in a puff of smoke. But others that may read this.

This was telling you way back that you had a problem, most likely Excessive Noise coming most likely from PSU - The fix at that time, was not to disconnect the "WARNING" (speaker), but to check a little closer, may have found your voltages were not to good and when placed under load may have dropped below specs.

. There is a good chance that your MB has been damaged, possibly other components as well. Could be lucky, but do not have High hopes.
1) That Buzz on speakers, if it was noise on +5/+12 V rails placed a lot of stress on electrolytic Capacitors. In Fact it is possible that this caused a failure on the MB that then put the Final nail in the coffin for the Low end PSU.
2) When Low end PSUs Blow a house fuse, You have NO idea what this placed on the PSU Rails going to all components.

So I just went out and bought a new psu. It's a G7 power extreme 680w.

I plugged it all in and to my relief, my PC turned on!

However now I have a CONSTANT buzzing coming from my internal speaker from my motherboard!

Some help would really be appreciated!
