Future computer build thoughts

My computer is starting to show it's age but is still usable to a very satisfying extent. In approximately a year I'd like to build big crazy rig when more interesting vr titles are being developed. I expect graphics cards, ram and cpus to drop in price in line with their normal production costs and newer competition also I believe that with "staking" being developed for crypto currencies I don't believe mining will be as cost effective and less relevent in inflating hardware costs.

Obviously this is currently just a futile exercise but I like slowly researching trends and looking on the horizon.

Any comments are welcome.

Going all out I see. Don't count too much on price drops, specially not for GPUs. Few things to watch out for: Research more about CPU cooler, Threadripper is much larger than Ryzen processor, standard coolers can't cover the core(s) properly also may not fit the socket or have attachments.
Count on faster RAM, 2400 is not fast enough to to keep up with that processor.

Thank you, just the type of pointers I was hoping for.

U can expect the z390 to release in the second half of 2018 and 8 core mainstream Intel i7/i9 cpu

The Vega Frontier is a prosumer gpu. Stick to 1080ti or the Nvidia titan V GeForce model.

Don't go for that aio cooler. Be quite dark rock pro 4 is gonna release. They showcased it in ces 2018. Get that.

Go for a corsair rmx, seasonic prime psu instead of that ocz.

A 16gb 3200/3000mhz ram should do fine.

The rest are upto you.

I'm shifting my thoughts away from amd/ati after reading some of the workarounds people have had to get the threadripper to support vr when windows sometimes shuts down cores, certain driver issues etc.
I don't have as much need for rendering/crazy-multitasking as that chip offers while i7/i9 offerings yield better frame rates without bottlenecking.

Does the i9 in this link support faster memory than 2666?

I'll be interested in seeing the next generation of i7 and i9 processors though.

If your not building till next year then their no reason to even list anything now.
New hardware will be out by then.
Card prices might continue to go up not go back down.
That PSU is massive overkill an their no reason to get over a16gb of memory unless your using memory intensive work programs.
You get to a point in a gaming PC where you can spend a ton more money for very little performance increase.

I guess I started this extremely premature exploratory thread more so to familiarize myself with some of the hardware that is relevant to vr and listen to peoples thoughts/opinions on such.

The computer I still use has an overclocked i7 875k and I never felt the need to upgrade because I was never remotely came close to taxing it in 1080p gaming. Now that I have a 4k monitor and play a bit with those resolutions things are different. With that being one of the first quad core hyper threaded processors it seemed like overkill at the time but it really proved to be a semi future-proofed processor that never bottle-necked gpus.

None of these pc part picker builds will ever become real, I'm kinda just throwing things out there to intentionally hear why people avoid certain parts.

The 32gb of ram was a miss-click I meant for the 16gb package but messed something up after changing things around. Sometimes I stick a beefy psu in a build if I think going sli/crossfire will be relevant in the future. Currently it doesn't seem like many games in vr support sli/crossfire but it also sounds like nvidia is pushing for more support in the future.

The end build will have a real budget and probably be based on black friday/cyber monday sales or maybe the following January with deals I find in the secondhand market on ebay/amazon/micro center/etc. In this budget-less hypothetical questionnaire I like to start with top of the line stuff and move down a part at a time until the price/performance balances out.

Thank you for your constructive input. I'm sorry for wasting anyone's time if I wasn't clear about my intent for posting here.
