Hi guys so i have a non techy uni friend from work who has his eyes set on a razor blade stealth with razor core and aiming to sling a GTX 1080 in there for ultimate fps.
Im done with lap tops since building my gaming rig but i do like the smart idea of the razor core however he asked me, after telling me the specs of the i7 dual core in the razer. if it will bottle neck.
I said to my limited knowledge that even if its dual core its an i7 so it will have hyper threading so it should work fine and give okay fps but its still a dual core mobile pc chip so its not going to give the full potential of a quad core which in my eyes is slight bottle necking but that's a given.

So there's that but i asked hadn't he considers a gaming laptop even though they are heavier and bigger he said he hadn't. He's not a hard-core gamer yet and i believe he wants a flash looking light weight laptop for uni with the potential to plug in a graphics card and get into gaming.

But my thinking was and is long term him potentially pissing £1,000 for the lap top, £500 for the razer core and £600-1000 on a 1080 in total £2000+ into the wind and carrying bulky external graphics cards modules he should seriously just consider putting that all into a high end gaming lap top with a quad core and a 970 or more, better option right?

Any suggestions, comments and experience appreciated.

if he really NEEDS the razer blade then just let him get it. there are better options definitely, but i know how people can be about their "stuff". i see the razer blade stealth as more of a high end, light-gaming laptop more than an actual gaming workhorse. the i7 it has is basically a desktop i3 (i hate how intel does that) with slower clocks. so it'll run games, but pairing an i3 with a gtx 1080 is almost laughable. oh well.

Haha kind of what i thought. Thank you

two cores WITH hyperthreading can definitely be enough for MOST games these days, though. i wouldn't make a blanket statement about that. there are only a few exceptions.

two cores with a gtx 1080 these days, though...is another story entirely

Hyperthreading is not an actual core. It is just the ability for one core to have two threads. If one core is doing work, the other extra thread can't do anything else. Hyperthreading is also known to reduce performance in some cases, especially in games. It is nowhere near having additional cores. The dual core will not last long for future proofing either.
