Future proof gaming

Should I go for i5 4460 for gaming with 8gigs of ram, AMD Rx 480.
Will it run games in max settings for about 2 years from now. I thought of waiting for ryzen but the price is more than stated.

No I wouldn't say the i5 4460 is "future proof". There are some CPU intensive games already that will bottleneck the 4460 with the RX 480.

I'm thinking of custom PC build and I have more $250 left for a processor including heatsink and fan. I have an Alienware 13 laptop and want to move to a desktop

LGA 1150 is 4th-gen Intel. If you are building new go with LGA 1151 7th-gen Intel.

Actually, just replace your picked out CPU Mobo and RAM with LGA 1151 i5-7500, B250 Mobo, and some DDR4 2400 RAM.

And rest of the things including monitor costs me $1050. I was thinking of buying i5 6500 but I'm tight on budget so I want to reduce the price without much affecting the performance.
