Hi everyone, I just wanted to know whether an i7 13th gen, RTX 4070 and 32GB RAM is relatively future proof? That’s about my max budget can afford at the moment to upgrade from an i7 7th gen, GTX 1080 and 16GB ram.

I don’t do too much gaming, maybe The Sims 4, Dreamlight Valley and Sea of Thieves. Not a huge AAA+ player, but Hogwarts Legacy looks pretty sweet.

Cheers.

I have a very similar setup with a 13700K and a 4070TI. It'll be a viable rig for the next several years, no question about that. As we've seen with tests, the 14700K isn't really that much different than the current generation. Intel usually pulls this with every new generation of motherboards. If you're looking for something that will last for a couple of more CPU upgrade cycles, I'd look more towards building something with a Ryzen 7800X3D. AM5 will be around for the next several years and Ryzen 8000 is just around the corner early next year.

I am just not sure why you would go for a 4070 or 4070 ti when a 7800xt or 7900xt is cheaper (or the same price) as the 4070 and 4070 ti respectively. Unless you absolutely need Nvdia, I don't see the point in going with Nvidia given what a terrible value for money the 40 series is.

7800XT wasn't available when I built my rig and the 7900XT was way outside of my budget. But I definitely agree that I'd pick the 7800XT, either Power Color or Sapphire, if I was building a new rig right now.

I have a 7700XT in another rig and it's been a great card so far. And in one of my other rigs, I'll be putting in a Sapphire Nitro 7800XT probably next year.

In a case like this I also ask of OP, what resolution and framerate are you gaming with? What monitor?

The system you mention having already is aging, but still should be pretty capable on most titles at 1080/60 with mid settings or so.
What manner of budget are you working with and where are you shopping. Couple of members around here are wizards with a workable build list.
