Last night I purchased all the bits to build a gaming computer, but then quickly canceled them as it occurred to me with the release of next gen consoles will the pc requirements become more 'needy'

'Cooler Master HAF X USB 3.0 XL ATX Case

Asus Maximus VI Hero Motherboard (Intel Z87, DDR3, S-ATA 600, ATX, PCI Express 3.0, USB 3.0, Sonic Radar, Extreme Engine Digi+ III, Socket 1150)

Corsair CP-9020056-UK RM Series RM850 80 Plus Gold 850W ATX/EPS Fully Modular Power Supply Unit

Corsair CML16GX3M2A1600C10 Vengeance Low Profile 16GB (2x8GB) DDR3 1600 Mhz CL10 XMP Performance Desktop Memory Kit Black

EVGA Nvidia GeForce GTX 760 Superclocked ACX 4GB GDDR5 Graphics Card (PCI Express 3.0, HDMI, DVI-I, DVI-D, Display Port, Nvidia 3D Vision Ready, Nvidi

Western Digital Black - 3.5 inch 1TB Desktop SATA Hard Drive – OEM

Microsoft Windows 8 Standard 64 bit OEM, WN7-00403, English Version

Intel Core i7 4770K Quad Core Retail CPU (Socket 1150, 3.50GHz, 8MB, Haswell, 84W, Intel Graphics, BX80646I74770K, 4th Generation Intel Core, Turbo Boost'

So with the above parts (some not being related), how long do you feel the graphics card will last before I have to purchase a new one to play games like battlefield in top res.

cheers for the response!

P.s - this would also be used for my graphic design work and animation.

I think that gpu will last say 2-4 years?
Its hard to tell future... But there is an speculation that because the next gen consoles have 8 weak cores, new games will start to utilize more cores.
And also because most games are console ports according to what i heard. So i suggest an amd build. But its just an speculation..

Thanks for the reply, what AMD parts would you swap with what? As you may see I'm not to great with hardware stuff more of a software guy😛

I'd suggest getting an SSD while you are at it. I got one and felt it was worth every penny. Loading is so short, most times so short you can't even read the tips on the loading screen.
As far as GPUs are concerned, you can either pay more now and get an even better GPU which should last you longer performance wise, or keep what you have now and sell it and buy a new one when you feel the performance isn't cutting it anymore.
Stick with Intel for the CPU, AMD fell way behind on the CPU front.

What do you feel I should do with the graphics card? Im completely clueless about AMD on this front, my budget really can't budge as with mouse/monitor/keyboard its already far over what it should be..

The GTX 760 is rougly equivalent to Radeon HD 5970, 7870 LE (XT), and 7950. Since you have an overclocked 760 picked out, it makes it a little bit harder to find what's equivalent. The next tier of GPUs from AMD go up drastically in price, so that's out of the question. http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/gaming-graphics-card-review,3107-4.html verifies that the 760 is the best buy at $250. Stick with the 760, it's the best bang for your buck, Mantle most likely won't make much of a difference

Thanks for the response appreciate it a lot. Would you mind taking a look over the parts list I included and tell me if it will all work well together? and also if I would need additional fans as the cooler master HAF X has some built it.

Also you mentioned a SSD card, I'm pretty stuck on money right now but what would be a good cheap one for the time being?

Thanks for the help!

Cheers for telling me ill drop it to 750W to be safe and leave space for upgrade.
Lastly, can I move my os to a SSD in the future or does it have to be done on set-up?
and will a 60gb one be big enough for just the OS I'm not worried about games, might need to put a few graphic softwares on tho.
