I'm saving up to upgrade/future proof my pc build. I currently have an i5 4690k and would like to get the Ryzen 7 2700x and get DDR4 RAM. Problem is I don't know any motherboards or DDR4 RAM that would be good for this upgrade. Could anyone recommend me a good motherboard and DDR4, preferably 16gb of RAM, thanks!

Solution
If this is a future build, you probably want to wait until the 3rd generation Ryzen processors are out later this year.
There's no such thing as "future proof" in the computer world. By the time new technology is released, the next best thing is already in development. Also, there is no promise that the next generation of hardware will be compatible with what is currently available.

As for the rest of the Ryzen build, you'll want either the B450 or X470 chipset motherboard (if the B550/X570 haven't been released) and more than likely DDR4-3200 or faster RAM.

Yeah, this is a future build. I didn't know about the 3rd generation Ryzen. I might as well wait for that. If not, I think I'll just go ahead for the Ryzen 7 2700x. For RAM, would DDR4 RAM under 3200 still be good like 2400?

I wouldn't go that far under 3000 with a Ryzen build.

I'd ask again when you're ready to actually build a PC. The best recommendations can change just in weeks.
