Future Upgrade Path

Well basically I'm planning a future Upgrade. I currently have a g4560 and a 960 4gb. I'm am unsure whether to just plope in a i5 7500, or to get a i5 8400 plus new mobo. Are an extra 2 cores worth for gaming and future gaming to buy a new mobo. I will be getting a 1160 when those are a thing if not then a 1070. Money is important in this decision.

While the i5-7500 might be able to handle the 1160 fine, games are becoming more and more thread-aware. The faster 6-core will make a difference if not now, in the future.
The i5-7500 is about on a par with the Ryzen 3 1300x. The 1300X is maxed out with the GTX 1060. I suspect the 1160 will need more CPU to prevent bottleneck.

An i7 7700 would serve you well for a long time if 60fps gaming is ur target.

If you wanna buy a new motherboard, wait for the 9000 series in October.
