Futuremark posts 'No Cheating' policy

Futuremark, who you may know by another name (Mad Onion) or by their Products (3Dmark, PC Mark, etc.) has posted some guidelines about benchmarking using their 3Dmark products and enforcing those guidlines.

By these guidelines both ATI and nV were cheating before. The level to which I'm sure could be debated, but we've already done that and it's all been said/done and everyone is pretty firmly in their camps.

I still don't think this has any real 'enforcement' teeth to it, since demanding an explination, doesn't accomplish much. But I guess they had to do something, especially if they are planning on a future release of 3Dmk04 next year.

The main thing would be to strike all benchmarks from their database using questionable drivers. If the fans can't gloat, do you not think that soon you'd see the card makers getting tons of complaints ('my Bungholio Viagra Marks aren't king of the world no more, why'd you sell me out!'). I think THAT would be the most powerful tools at FM's disposal, since their lawyers seem to be of no use against the likes of nVidia.
I doubt this will change much, since reviewers will still run the benchmark with non-WHQL drivers (that one company seems to be relying on for their future strategy) simply to put a good spin on hardware (how many ran them with the Det 51.XX drivers just recently).

It's ABOUT time that they finally anounce such a policy. They were in some pretty HOT water back a few months ago as we all know. Let's just hope that they actually fulfill their promisses to such a policy. If they don't they'll lose ALOT more credibility than they already have.

Well Obviously you haven't taken a captured fart and released it on a 'friend' on the couch watching the game! :evil:

And to those waiting for it, here were go again;

Seriously, this is better than nothing, but not by much IMO.
However, never underestimate the creativity that farts have fostered in man, especially after a man has fostered a fart for so long. :eek:

Lolz funny.
Honestly though it really is too little to late given all the "optimisations" that nvidia did and the legal wrangling involved.

(Thats why i used the word "optimisations", lest the Nvidia legal heavies come and chat to me with the legal equivalent of a baseball bat)

Do what I do, and call the 'floptimizations'. Ooops sorry mr. barrister lawyer man, guess that non-english word which I obviously must have misspelled in my haste (I have many other examples of my misspaleng thengs, d'oh! Schtoopid!).

Yeah I agree, the nail in the coffin was their acceptance of nV's floptimizations and then welcoming them back into the fold as if what they did was no different than any of their other participants. [H]'s article didn't help either.

I still think there's a place for 3DmkXX, but it's not really in reviews (except with detailed analysis), it's great for testing system OC's and driver differences IMO.

Hopefully Futuremark finds a pair of balls and retains some legal counsel worthy of a public company (and don't go local, get America lawyers, they are pure evil, which is needed to combat an equal evil [foreign lawyers {except maybe Sneaky Canadian ones, or the Tricky Brits} would simply get stomped in some California, or worse yet, some small nationalistic state court]).

What it all breaks down to is that Futuremark has to make the APPEARANCE of doing something, Anything, to stem the tide, or else not only will they lose respect, they will have established precedent that they don't mind these floptimizations.

Anywhoo, that's how I see it. Not enough (by a long shot), but more than nothing.
