I'm thinking about replacing 1060 for something better.

current setup:
8700K (without ovecrcloking)
Z370 asus strix-f
16GB ram 3200mhz
550w source seasonic

-----------
Candidates:
RTX2070
1800TI
-----------

target? Feeds to max details in 1080p at 144Hz

I know about other investments (powersource + water cooling to the processor and overclock it to 5 GHz). next graphics change in 5 years with whole pc

thanks for advice.

You don't need a new power supply and most 8700Ks will hit 5GHz without watercooling, AIOs are usually a waste of money anyways unless it's an mITX build. We can't give you any advice without knowing prices of your options, prices for the 2070, 1080, 1080 ti, 1070 ti would be nice. Are you 100% sure that you want to upgrade? Because the far more economical option would be to play on high settings instead of ultra and keep the 1060, but that's a decision for you to make. For what it's worth I wouldn't buy a 1080 ti or even a 2070 right now for 1080p, that's gross overkill. Might be a more attractive option when they cost $200-250 in 2 years.

Looking at building things in terms of "futureproofing" is usually a good way to waste a lot of money to be honest, why buy a top of the line card that's twice as expensive now when the mid range card will serve your needs just fine and you can replace it in 2 years with another mid range card that's faster than the old top of the line one?

now i have chance sell the 1060 for 200 usd :) so that was a reason why i start thinking about change. I have really small table.. that was reason why i stay on 24 inch monitor .. so i just buy new monitor with 144 hz.. i am thing about rtx .. because i "belive" that raytraicing will come :D and then can be 1080p good :) if you want to stay on higher fps. but i understand that RTX 2070 can be over kill on 1080p .

pricing:
2070 for 650 usd
USED 1080TI for 618
NEW 1080 for 600
NEW 1070TI 529 usd
