Futureproofing my PC's budget update

Hello users,
I want to have your opinion on my thoughts. That is: I want to do a cheapo upgrade of my PC (around 300$). That is CPU+MOBO+RAM.
First let's start with my current build:
Intel Q8300 @2,5GHz (actually it is @2GHz coz I think it throttled itself);
2x2GB 800mhz DDR2 CL9 RAM sticks;
Asus' P5Q-EM motherboard;
and AMD's HD6770 graphics card.

Now to the main point, I want to make a budget upgrade, by buying a mobo that will be good for future CPU which would be i7 of course. Alonside that MOBO, I will buy some RAM (whatever that's not important) and I would want to buy an Intel's i3 CPU as a temporary replacement for my future i7.

My PC is mainly used for video editing, 3d graphics rendering, and gaming (not really demanding games, mainly CS:GO which runs just fine). I know for a fact that even an i3 would perform better than my Q8300, and I don't want to buy an i5 because it's sort of too much for daily use, and not enough for demanding post-production.

And my two main questions are!
1) is buying a temporary CPU worth it? (I guess it will be like half a year, maybe more before I can buy an i7)
2) if you agree on above, then which generation of Intel's should I go for? I could go for 3rd generation which would be slightly cheaper to buy today, and still it has got CPU's like i7-3930K which has 3,2ghz (3,8 in turbo) and 6C/12T - which would be just perfect for me. Or should I go for more expensive 6th generation that just came out?

Cheers

I would say that it is not worth a temporary i3 build.

Save the money up until you are ready for a full build. Things are rapidly evolving with sockets, DD4, etc. so that it is likely that there will be something much better and possibly even cheaper in a year and a half or two when you are ready to go.
