fuzzy/wavy lines on display

I'm using an NEC Accusync 120 (21" monitor) at 1280 by 1024 resolution at 85khz. My graphics card is a Geforce2 MX400 64Mb video card. My diplay has wavy/fuzzy lines on it. I don't have this problem at any other resolution. The lines disapear when I use the Moire adjustment on the monitor. It adjust from 0-99 I have it set at 40. Will using this adjustment damage my monitor? Is my video card causing this problem?
