You may want to let the dust settle before purchasing. Amd may be "They are" getting ready to take their first really big swing at Intel. Now before someone takes this comment out of context and flames me for being an Intel fanboi  thats not where im going with this at all. The tables may be about to turn in AMDs favor in actual market position. They have had the edge in performance for sometime now. The overall market has been a different story. The reviews coming out just now confirm some info that was passed along to me this weekend. I didnt know just how significant that info was until now. This is the first of a series of moves that AMD has been getting ready to make.

My communication skills are getting worse in my old age 😱 As you know, my knowledge of AMD products or otherwise is lacking to say the least. This weekend I was talking to someone that had heard about some of my OCs and had taken interest in how I was hitting such high clock speeds with a liquid setup. Anyway, over the course of our conversation he mentioned that AMD was about to release some faster products and that they were going to embrace Overclocking some of their products at least to some degree.. Its my understanding that they are going to be very careful in how they define overclocking. He also brought up the subject of AMDs superior product but lack of power, strength, size or whatever you want to call it, in the worldwide market. I think that we all understand that Intel can get away with alot just because of their size and ability to control so many aspects of the market. AMD is in the lead and has been for a long time when it comes to performance...... Intel has been walking down what seems to be a dead end street all this time.

This could get very long so im going to try and sum it up. I was chatting with a buddy earlier and he told me that reviews on the FX57 had just started hitting the forums. After I read a couple of them I realized that this dude wasnt just speculating he was telling me hard facts that at the time werent in the mainstream. He knew about all the details of the new releases and a few that are yet to come. If your in the market for a single core CPU and the higher clockspeeds turn you on, then im telling you that you should wait because there is more to come in the short term.

Is this just buisness as usual? Maybe, but then maybe not. New product releases are always going to occur but at some point AMD will have to do more than just a new product release if they are going to lend a heavy enough blow to Intel. I doubt that the high brass at Intel truely think that anyone can gain siginificant ground in the market if for no other reason because of their size and control. History tells us that at some point the giant will fall. Intel has repeatedly been outdone by AMD. I think that the dual core release may have left more than a bruise to Intels ego. Im betting the farm on the fact that AMD has been building up for a series of punches and has been waiting for the right time to throw them. We may see AMD come out swinging hard but also fighting the battle on some new fronts.

If you are alluding to the FX57, then.. well what else is new ? If you are speculating about a FX59, then, forget it. Not until this fall at the very very earliest. Even if AMD could produce a 3 GHz part, it wouldn't make sense to release it now. If there is anything to hope for, its possibly an X2 5200+ @2.6 GHz, but even that doesn't seem all that likely in the short term, if for no other reason than that AMD has no competition there and wants to maintain high ASPs for the slower parts.

And DDR2 ? Will happen, but not until we get a new socket, which won't be this year AFAIK.

? indeed, how odd. I can't find any reference to this on AMDs site however,..

Yes it does, that's AMD's new overclocking mode. Yes, AMD will now sanction overclocking as long as the clock speed doesn't increase....HTT is free to increase though. ABIT, MSI and ASUS have BIOSs coming out that will automatically do this for you with the FX-57. It can already be done with various mulitpliers/divider combos, just have to be smart about it.

Just the FX57, and DDR2 in 2006 I think. When they do jump to DDR2 they are going to be way ahead of the curve. I wouldnt doubt some rumors of testing and benchmarks circulating in 05.

Mozz stop with the cryptic! Ahead of the curve, so you mean they will start with DDR2-800?

How to you 'know' this anyway, some weirdo on another forum claiming to be 'teh insIDEr'? [/muahahahahahah]

Love me.

Im not trying to be cryptic. You dont think that they are already testing CPUs with DDR2? Im referring to AMD of course.

You see, AMD has a better product than Intel, so with better vision they should sell them in bulk for at least $1,299

I'm sure that THG cant make a mistake, so when they say $1031. in batches of 1k, they are right, while that price for PIB is wrong.
Of course, that would still make it $1 more than the P4 3.4EE with the jello core.
