Hey guys,

Been a fan of this site for a while, but first post!

So I just bought my FX 6300 from MicroCenter ($109, couldn't pass that up 😍) as an upgraded to my Phenom 965 BE. So anyways I get to overclocking this thing, and I think I have hit the silicon lottery with this particular chip! I have it running stable at 4.9GHz at 1.49 volts with 50c temps at max load.

At around the 5GHz mark I have to push 1.5+ to keep it from crashing, even though temps are fine. Is that fine for the chip? Or should I just leave it at what I have now? Not too concerned about chip longevity, as I plan on upgrading to Steamroller later this year. It was only to tie me over as my 965 was holding back my new GTX 770 I got a sweet deal on.

Haha man thats great.I actually read your thread on that before buying my 6300. Picked the 6300 because I put the extra cash towards the GPU.

So I guess we got pretty lucky with our chips. Will have to see how far I can really push it lol.

Thanks! I am fairly new to crazy overclocking like this, as this is my first build where I actually bought a high quality motherboard as opposed to the cheapest one that fit my socket. Lots of fun to do, and the support from this community is great!

Only a Antec Kuhler 620. It was getting in the upper 60's under max load, which is about the max I want it to go. I will be upgrading to an H100i when my budget allows.

5.1Ghz on 1.384v? WHAT THE ACTUAL FK?!!?

What board did you use and how do you keep your VRM's cool?

But what about your VRM's? How hot are the? Mine are holding me back in this case, as they reach around 70 under full load. They even have a small fan placed on the heatsink blowind down.
