I recently decided to buy a gaming PC as a christmas present to myself. It is a pre-built system (as I am new to the world of PC gaming) that I bought off amazon, but ever since I have taken it out the box it has been running very unusually.

The specs of my PC are:
CPU: AMD FX 6300
MOBO: ASUS M5A78L-M USB3
GPU: XFX Radeon R7 240
PSU: CiT 700W
RAM: 8GB
OS: Windows 7 Home Premium

Here is some footage of my Minecraft gameplay (sorry about the focus) : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CBYH5naJS60

As you can see in the video, I have high fps (55-60), yet the gameplay is very choppy and detached. I recorded it on my iPad to ensure that no external applications were running which could cause the system to slow.

At first I thought it was the GPU, and I therefore reseated the card and rebooted the computer. This made no difference. I then went about researching how to fix it, and noticed that even youtube videos were stuttering despite being fully loaded. This led me to believe that the CPU was the culprit. I reinstalled some drivers (I don't know whether they were the correct ones or not), but this also was not a fix.

I am really gutted that my PC doesn't work properly, and I am hoping that someone will know what to do.

"glitching/stuttering" in what should be low-load conditions is usually caused by software layer problems, or in some cases, hard drive malfunction.

The standard approach I would take here would be to download the win7 home ISO direct from MS, put it on a USB thumb drive, boot from it, and do a clean OS install (wipe the drive) with nothing but a clean copy of windows, (not a modified vendor recovery disk full of manure). Your machine should have come with your windows licence key, which should work just fine for this.

After the fresh clean install, go to the support page for your motherboard model at Asus's website, download and install motherboard drivers, restart, then do ALL windows updates, then finally, download and install AMD...

If the system is "glitchy" at this point, then you probably have a hardware problem.

Thank you so much! It worked a treat! My PC is now running great. (The windows updates took AGES though!) :)

Not bad for a linux guy who hasn't run Windows since "Windows 2000".. lol

It's amazing how some things never change.....
Re-installing window's has been sort of the "mainstay" fix now for 20 years+
It's not uncommon for pre-built machines to come with all sort of extra 3rd party software that causes these problems. In many cases, it is this 3rd party software (demo's, trials, advertisements, etc) that actually subsidize the cost of the machine.

The good news, is that now you have a proper clean install of windows configured with exactly what the machine should have installed and nothing more.

If you can avoid having to use anti-stuff (virus/malware/spyware/gunkware), that will keep the system running with less wasted compute overhead. Ideally your front-line defense to that "stuff" should be user related.

I'm really glad to hear the re-install and proper config/update has the machine running smooth. Glad I could help that's a rewarding feeling when we get a positive outcome.
