Hi,

I'm wanting to get a new Graphics card but I wasn't sure if it would be worth it, currently I have an AMD Fx 6300 @ 3.8Ghz with an AMD R9 270x + 8Gb ram. I want to get a GTX 970 but I'm not sure whether or not I'd get a huge performance boost. Would games like BF4, Arma 3, CS:GO etc actually run alot better with a 970 opposed to my 270x? I'm not expecting to run games like Arma 3 Ultra +60fps with my cpu but am I right in thinking I'd get a fair amount more fps with a 970? Will my cpu limit a 970 to the point where its not worth getting?

Also, I'm pretty sure it will work but I just want to make sure my Motherboard (Gigabyte 78LMT-USB-3) will work with the 970 and whether or not I'd have a enough power to run it, I have a 600w power supply.

Thanks,

Solution
Hello LukeW2464,

1) Yes, the GTX 970 is a significant upgrade. The AMD card that is neck and neck with it is the R9 390, which would also be a significant upgrade. Many more FPS.

2) The FX-6300 will bottleneck with either of the cards above, but you'll still be able to have quite a good gaming experience with the pairing.

3) You have enough wattage, but make sure and double check that your PSU has the required PCIe connections to power these bigger cards.

4) Yes, your motherboard will support the GTX 970 (or AMD R9 390).

Here's are two very good models to look at, both from MSI:

Video Card: MSI GeForce GTX 970 4GB Twin Frozr V Video Card ($313.99 @ SuperBiiz)
Total: $313.99
Prices include shipping, taxes...

*Between the two, if you're planning on gaming at 1080p choose the GTX 970, if you might want to upgrade eventually to 1440p the R9 390 would be the better choice.

Solution

Hi, Thanks for the reply! This is my psu: Corsair CX600 80 Plus Bronze 600w Power Supply, is it compatible? I'm assuming it is.

Great! and just to clarify I wouldn't need any sort of new power cables or connectors or anything like that?

Sorry, forgot to ask, Would the upgrading process be easy? I'm confident I can actually install the card but I'm not sure how easy it'll be once I have the card in and I start my PC, Will it just run and do what it needs to do with drivers or will I have to do anything in the BIOS or put drivers on a flash drive?
