Hi guys,

I'm on a budget and I've got three choices:

-> FX-6300 + HD7850
-> i3-3220 + HD7850 ( I'd be saving like 20€ here if I choosed i3 instead of the FX-6300 but it would not be enough to improve the GPU )
-> i5-3470 + Any other card below HD7850

I don't know which should I choose for better performance because:

-> The FX 6300 is faster than i3-3220;
-> The Core i5 is faster than both FX-6300 and i3;
-> The i3-3220 is the slower CPU there.

Thanks.

Btw, I'll be using the machine principally for gaming in 1680x1050 ( will be 1920x1080 if the FPS would not drop much or the FPS is too high and I have "space" for drops; can be lower resolutions too ), will use it for programming, watch HD movies and ***.

wait till Black Friday OR til December and try for a 3470/3550 and a 7850. Im sure there will be good deals to be had. If need be save a little bit more for the above combo, although even the i3 will be able to match the FX 6300 in gaming.

( Sorry for the two reply but i get no permissions to edit reply ) I might try to make some deal with users but it's almost impossible so i'm awaiting ppl to give some hand and tell me what should i do.

Is the i5 worth the 22.60€ more? Should I stick with i3? If I'd stick with i3 I'd save like 40/60€, I don't know what would I use these 40-60€ in. I think the i5 would be better...

finally a forum without a single argument over intel vs amd.

here is my unbias knowledge:
Basically an fx 6300 wouldn't bottleneck a 7850 and not even a 7850 crossfire. Expect a difference of 3 fps in non cpu demanding games. In more cpu dependent games, which don't render multi-cores (amd's strongsuit), expect a decent drop in performance; this is caused because the intel core hyper threads anyways, whereas amd makes up for it by using multiple cores: something older games did not incorporate. BF3 can you like 3 or 4 cores (3 confirmed).

7850 recommends a 550-600 watt psu, but a 500 80+ will do fine. for crossfire however, a 700 80+ will do, with 720 watts recommended for an amd system. Overclocking wouldn't be wise with a 700 watt system while crossfiring with standard 700 watt psu which is what I have. 3.5 (OC to 4Ghz) is enough for me but I only OC if I drop below 30 fps on GTA IV

Yea go for the i5. i bought a amd 6300 ONLY to see how amd preforms it was a risky move since its my main gaming rig. however at stock clocks i was less than thrilled it bottlenecked my 7970ghz it wasnt getting 99% gpu usage, it was getting around 75% however when i put it too 4.5ghz well i have no complaints it feels like a Lamborghini 99% gpu usage haha. That being said though. Get the i5 lower power, more per core perfomance and well its intel. haha

id go with the 6300 and 7850 as the 6300 should match the i3 clock for clock but it has 1 more core (6300 is triple core cpu labeled as hex)

Oh yes i agree. if its between the 6300 and i3 No competion 6300>i3 however when you throw the i5 in the mix. it seems like the better choice
