I'm really new to overclocking, so I might sound a little dumb (possibly)

I'll just list some of the important specs regarding cooling and air intake/CPU stuff

CPU: FX-6300
MOBO: M5A97 LE R2.0
CPU COOLING: Stock fans w/ 6300
CASE: NZXT Phantom 410
PSU: XFX PRO550W

I'm wondering if there's any hopes of me overclocking the CPU and if so at what speed.

Thanks a ton.

You can definitely overclock the CPU, but definitely not using the stock heatsink/fan.

Buy something better than the Evo 212, which every OC noob will recommend. It's cheap, and cheap for a reason. It's mediocre at best. Invest in a good Noctua air cooler or go with liquid cooling (my preferred method). Air coolers are only as good as your case airflow, which is usually pretty awful in most people's builds due to their lack of proper cable management. Corsair liquid coolers are a little more expensive, but they work pretty damn well in my experiences with them.

But in short, yes, you will eventually be able to OC your FX-6300, just DO NOT do it using stock cooling.
