Whenever I start up my computer for the first 20 minutes or so the cpu get's extremely loud and to an upwards of 80 degrees celsius and then sometimes it shuts off. This problem just started two days ago but the computer has been working okay for the past two years. What could possibly be the issue or what can I do to possibly troubleshoot the issue?

Your thermal paste might need replacing. It doesn't last forever and in some climates can need replacing every couple of years.

First thing I would do is put a new application of thermal paste between the CPU and heatsink to make sure your CPU is receiving adequate cooling.

Things to check/do:
-Make sure your CPU fan/heatsink is running.
-Replace the thermal paste (MX4 is good), more then likely the paste is dried.
-As long as the cooler is working I would replace the thermal paste and re-seat the cooler, if you are unsure on how to do this look it up on youtube as there are plenty of guides/videos.

What has changed since all was well?

Likely you have a cpu cooler problem.
Perhaps it has come loose.
At idle, I would expect to see 10-15c. over ambient.
Remount the cooler using fresh paste.
Do not use too much as it will act as an insulator.
Make certain that the cooler is secured tightly and even.

Also, any cooler needs a source of fresh air.
If you take the case covers off, does this resolve the problem?
