Specs:
FX 6300
HD 7750 XFX
4Gb RAM

I was monitoring my CPU temps and GPU because, on easy to run games, i get fps drop quite frequently, when my system should be enough to run these games in max (for instance, Ghosts recon Phantoms) i know that these things aren't accurate at all, but the heat spikes that i got readings of, happen when my game starts to slow down...to be more exact Speedfan detected a Max temp of 255ºC on the CPU when i got the fps drop, i know this is practically impossible, i don't smell anything funny and my case hasn't burst on fire, i read a couple of threads about this and it says that i should update my BIOS...but to be honest i am afraid of that, also my PC is kind of dirty i plan on using compressed air to clean it tomorrow and see if i can get this fixed because it is really annoying...anything else i can do? any ideas? please help if you can :c

EDIT=It was actually Core Temp, not Speedfan :p

CLean your computer, reapply thermal paste, and get a aftermarket cooler. A 212 evo is way more then enough for that CPU. Make sure all of your case and CPU fans are working (though if your CPU fan wasn't working...)

If you're overclocked, set to stock, especially if you're on a stock cooler.

255c is a false reading, but that doesn't mean you're not overheating.

*Check to see if your mobo has some type of automated program for updating the BIOS... Just make sure your system is stable before doing it.

Ok ill go right ahead and activate CPU overdrive thingy, hope i don't fry my PC with it, it needs some sort of auto-configuration before being able to monitor my CPU via that

No it doesn't. Read again and look at the pictures at what is circled in red. At no point will any auto-tuning be necessary.

Well the 6300 comes unlocked, or something like that, how do i find ACC/UCC unlockers? BIOS? this system is near a year old and with these readings i would be playing in a toast right now, but what i'm fairly sure is that i'm overheating...either that or the PC thinks it is overheating and lowers performance (as you can see clocks work at 1,4 and not 3,8 GHz when the thermal margin is red)

OK problem is solved for now, i looked at the heatsink of my cpu (the grey thing with several strips....tht's how you call it rite? xd) and it was FULL of dust between the metal bars, i picked up a cotton and cleaned the whole thing, now my max temperature while playing Ghost's recon, hawken and Blacklight retribution at MAX settings never went over 53ºC with a margin as high as 25ºC according to AMD Overdrive UI (i also disabled the turbo on my CPU on the BIOS, it will now be capped at 3,5GHz, my mobo is a piece of crap so i'll leave it like this) and the fps never dropped below 50 on the 3 games...now i can enjoy gaming as my rig should run it, thanks for the support, i'm also learning here :p

It was a year of dust though, i'll look into another cooler, but i'm not overclocking so this is doing fine, my cpu will survive now at least, thanks again ^^ i just ran Crysis 3 on high settings with 70-90 FPS thanks to this, not a single drop below 60
