Is buying the FX-6350 worth the extra $20 for a little bit of speed? I'm not sure I'll be able to afford it, but I might be able to. Is it worth it?

Solution
They are the same processor , with a different cooler .
If you are buying an aftermarket cooler and plan on overclocking just buy the 6300
If you wont OC or buy a cooler then the 6350 is worth the extra money
The 6350 is not worth even $5 more than the FX6300. Just make sure you get a good AM3+ motherboard if you choose this route. If you're going to buy a crappy 780 series motherboard, you're going to be unhappy with it.
I recommend the Athlon x4 860k or any i3 as a better and cheaper alternative to the FX6300/6350.

The Pentium G3258 is great too.

The FX 6300 is stronger, though

The i3 is stronger for around the same price or cheaper.

The 860k is about as strong for considerably cheaper.

The Pentium is stronger in some situations but gets spanked in others. I'm not a fan of the Pentium which is why I did not recommend it.

If you are not sure if you are able to afford it then the answer should be the 6300 without question. However I would also consider the Advice others recommending a G3258 and an AMD 860k. Those are both viable options which can cut costs. You may want to look at a micro-atx board too as that can trim some expenses.

The i3 has individually stronger cores , but as an overall processor where software can use all the available threads then the FX is much more powerful
