Hey so i might get an fx 6300 for really cheap and i was wondering if it will be bale to run a minecraft server with like 5 people on at max it will be 1.14.2 and i will have 16gb of ddr3 ram. I know this cpu could host mc servers in 2014 ( You could have like 400 people on or something)
but can it still now ?
1.14.2 is not very optimised so ye any advice would be appreciated

You'd be lucky to even PLAY minecraft on that CPU these days, much less use it to run a small game server. Even using software that can run on a potato, it will be a stretch, since that CPU adds up to about half a potato these days.
An FX 6300 while weak, is not quite a potato. You could run a Minecraft server on it for sure, but if you can get anything newer like a Ryzen 3 1200 that'd be way better.

OP, you can check the system requirements for this game which have been outlined here. I assume this is the correct link though::

https://help.mojang.com/customer/en...48-minecraft-java-edition-system-requirements

https://www.systemrequirementslab.com/cyri/requirements/minecraft/11356

Minimum Requirements:

  • CPU: Intel Core i3-3210 3.2 GHz / AMD A8-7600 APU 3.1 GHz or equivalent
  • RAM: 4GB
  • GPU (Integrated): Intel HD Graphics 4000 (Ivy Bridge) or AMD Radeon R5 series (Kaveri line) with OpenGL 4.4*
  • GPU (Discrete): Nvidia GeForce 400 Series or AMD Radeon HD 7000 series with OpenGL 4.4
  • HDD: At least 1GB for game core, maps and other files
  • OS:
  • - Windows: Windows 7 and up
  • - macOS: Any 64-bit OS X using 10.9 Maverick or newer
  • - Linux: Any modern 64-bit distributions from 2014 onwards
  • Internet connectivity is required for downloading Minecraft files, afterwards offline play is possible.
Recommended Requirements:

  • CPU: Intel Core i5-4690 3.5GHz / AMD A10-7800 APU 3.5 GHz or equivalent
  • RAM: 8GB
  • GPU: GeForce 700 Series or AMD Radeon Rx 200 Series (excluding integrated chipsets) with OpenGL 4.5
  • HDD: 4GB (SSD is recommended)
  • OS (recommended 64-bit):
  • - Windows: Windows 10
  • - macOS: macOS 10.12 Sierra
  • - Linux: Any modern distributions from 2014 onwards

i have a pentium g4600 would that work for hosting a server ? it only has 2 cores though

As was mentioned and then deleted, that CPU is even weaker.

As for the system specifications listed above for the game requirements, those are for playing the game, not for hosting a game server.

In the end, yeah, the FX-6300 can work, but it's weak. So it's going to be slow and tiresome. And just important will be what kind of internet connection you have. I think it's a major waste of your time overall if you don't have at least a 25MB/s internet connection with more than a 5MB/s upload limit, and a CPU that was released sometime in the last five years that is four cores or more, preferably also with hyperthreading.

I'm sure there are other considerations as well that should be factored into the requirements.

Yeah, that's correct. Actually I deleted my post, because I was getting sort of contradicting results from some of the benchmarks posted online, lol...So this had me confused...But yes, the pentium g4600 is indeed a weaker card CPU than the FX 6300.

Chip, or CPU, not "card". LOL.

Damn....Yes, Obviously CPU...Typo error from my side.....I think insomnia befriends me once again, I haven't slept properly since past few day, haha ~ 😴

EDIT: Can deleted comments be restored back by the mod/admin though ?

BTW, i just have one question. Can deleted comments be restored back by the MOD/admin of this site though ? I'm not sure how this Forum's code works, so that's why I'm asking....Sorry to bother you.

From experience helping friends set up Minecrack (intended, lol) servers, the FX family from AMD doesn't really cut it for it, unfortunately. It will run, don't get me wrong, but the server will start dragging its feet after you start building things by a lot.

Also, you may want to check if you can run the server with OpenJDK instead of the official Oracle JVM and compare. Usually, and strangely enough, OpenJDK works better with the AMD FX family (or anything Bulldozer/Pilediver-based).

Cheers!

I don't mean to offend you on your advice, but the G4600 is a Kaby Lake 14nm chip from 2017, the FX 6300 is a 32nm chip from 2012. For Minecraft, which favors Intel CPUs a lot, wouldn't it be better to get the G4600, use it for a while, then upgrade to a 7600 or something?

Pentiums drop AVX and Turbo speeds, so they're complete garbage for anything remotely serious. Even if running a Minecrack server is not "serious", the workload type is. The JVM has been AVX aware for a good while now, so not having AVX is a detriment. That being said, I don't think the FX family has good AVX prowess anyway and maybe a cheap i3 could work better, locked and all.

Cheers!
