Has anyone successfully used an AMD FX-6350 on ASRock 890GX Extreme 3? FX-6330 and 6300 are supported, so I'm thinking of trying my luck with a 6350.

Solution
Be careful. The 6300 and China released 6330 are both 95w 6core cpus. The 6350 is a 125w 6core cpu, not at all the same (architecture is, voltages and heat output are most definitely not). Many of those older am3+ boards only support upto 95w cpus, doesn't matter if they are 4,6 or 8core. As is, ASR claims the 890 GX Extreme 3 supports upto 140w cpus. With the heatsinking and max capacity of that board, a 6350 will work fine at stock, or very small OC, the 95w 6300 will be slightly worse at stock, but because of lower TDP, will actually OC much better, having more headroom thermally.

Will it work? Yes, the 6350 will work. Just not all that well. The 6300 would be superior.

According to cpu-upgrade, only the fx-4100, 6100 and 6330 are...

The motherboard page states it works with 6 core cpu's and AM3+, so I don't think theres any reason it won't work.

According to cpu-upgrade, only the fx-4100, 6100 and 6330 are supported, but it's an old list. I'm unsure if later listing would have included the 6300 or 6350, so try at your own risk, physically it'll fit/work but if bios doesn't support the cpu, you are dead in the water.

Thanks for all the info. I was wondering why there are very few 6330's on eBay and why they are all sold from China.
There was a guy on here who complained about a FX-8350 running very choppy on his 890GX Pro3. I don't want that happening to me. Anyway, I've been running a Phenom II X6 1075T ever since I bought the parts in late 2010. An FX-6350 is probably not even an upgrade except for AES encryption. What do you think? I'll wait a few more days. Maybe someone who's tried it will reply.

It's not a big upgrade from your Phenom but with a solid OC it will. While the 6300 will have better thermal headroom for a bigger OC, you can always get an aftermarket cooler and get a better OC on the 6350, but don't buy an aftermarket cooler until you know if the 6350 works in your board.

The 6300 was the most popular fx there was, it's worked on every mobo bios for fx Cpus I've ever seen. Except for the 890GX extreme3, which has a different bios to the Pro boards. Very wierd. If you can find more, or an updated list, you need to find if either cpu is supported before buying the cpu.
