Fx 8120 better than i5-2500k

I was gonna go for i5 2500k but the benchmark says the 8120 is better?

or should I spend extra to get 8150 which is same price as i5 2500k pretty much.

I need some confirmation on which is better

If you are going to be using it for heavy threaded applications, like many graphic design programs, then the 8120 would be ideal, though still outclassed by the average i7. If you are gaming, or doing any other conventional day to day tasks, the i5 2500k will out perform the 8120 by a mile. The 2500k is currently the best gaming processor on the market (not sure about th 2550k), so if thats what you will be doing, that is the given choice.

Depends on what you want to do. If its mainly for gaming, the i5 is the winner. the Chart shown is with the i5 at stock speed. Most i5s can EASILY get oced to 4.4-4.5 Ghz with a good cooler.

If you use software that uses a crap ton of cores, then the amd will win over the i5.

Correction the 2500k is the best high end gaming processor for the dollar.
Not the best gaming processor period. Hell My I&-2700k out performs
the I5-2500k in every game I have tested it in. I bought the 2500k first
back when tomshardware gave it such raving reviews. And through the corporation I work for I was able to get the I7-2700k from Intel for cheaper that what my 2500k cost.

And as far as overclocking they both overclock well (Talking about the Intel processors)

Now that amd chip is not bad but for gaming you partner that processor with a halfway good graphics card talking about Nvidia Geforce 560ti or better and your good to go.

Being an FX owner myself I would recommend the 2500k for everyday tasks or gaming. The FX-8120 will do better in heavily threaded applications but most games or applications you do will not use more than one or two cores. The 2500k has a much better IPC than the FX. They'll both be good, but the 2500k is better especially considering they are about the same price.

pretty much trades blows depending on the amount of threading in the application

btw, passmark is HORRIBLE!
