Hello everybody

I am planning to build a gaming/editing system. I have a YouTube channel and I need to render large videos of 20 minutes and longer. My question is will a FX 8320 be able to play a high end game while rendering a video in Sony Vegas? Or do I need to spend some more money and get a I7 4790(k).Also how will a 4690 I5 perform in the same situation?
No fanboys please

Here's a list of parts I have selected thus fare.

MSI GTX 970
Corsair HX750i
8Gb of ram ( hyper x fury)
Corsair obsidian 450D
Samsung 850evo 250gb SSD

My idea is to update this system every 3 months or so
Add ram and buy another 970.

What's your overall system budget? Let's start there. It's currently possible to get a GTX 970 and at least an Intel i5-4690K on $1100 assuming you don't need keyboard, mouse, or OS.

The FX is a decent CPU but at this point it's such an old CPU that it's not really worth buying anymore when even a low end Intel i5 can easily eclipse it in benchmarks. You're better off buying everything you need at once rather than building a system with incremental upgrades in mind.

Sigh... i hear that statement a lot now. the i5 4460 or wateva non k is good yes but if your going for 8350/20 they are very capable of running games and with 970 will do fine. intel ivybridge and haswell are not even a big gap their like 10% apart...so has intel really upgraded from ivybridge or have they just made a minor update to fool customers their sooooo up to date. I don't think so mate. Intels good but how often does a cpu need to be updated.

My budget is between 1000 and 1500 euros. Good point about the oldness of the FX.
But still i5 or i7 for my needs? An i7 is 100 euro more then an i5.Also will a six core i7 have significant time difference when rendering a video. I am still full of questions and I can't make a decision.

Not even close on the benchmarks: http://www.anandtech.com/bench/product/698?vs=1198

The 8320 is still a very capable processor but the fact remains that it's an energy hog compared to the much more energy efficient i5-4690 used in the comparison (125W vs 83W). Sure Haswell is an incremental upgrade from Ivy Bridge but every CPU upgrade is only going to be incremental from the previous upgrade. The other fact is that the FX-8320 was introduced in 2012, and it can hold up to Haswell, but for the most part if you can afford even a basic Haswell there's no comparison.

Ah ok, looks the way to go is a Xenon then.
Which Mobo would you recommend for this CPU. It has to support SLI. I was thinking of Asus ROG ranger for something like 180 euros/dollars.

I am running a i3 3240 with a b85 Asus board GTX 750 and 8gb of ram right now.

A video of 20min (Basic editing) renders in 2 hours and games are unplayable while rendering. How much time will it costs a higher end Intel like a Xenon for example?

The E3 1231 looks like the best option to me. I don't live in the UK so I had to do some research. For 260 euros I can find a xenon e3 1231. A 4690k is 245 and 4790 320. Can't be hard to decide :)

Thumbs up mate, the cpu will do well. Go for it, best to spend on the one that is more worth it. i5 is good but if you have a cpu with higher props near its price then why not go for the higher one. :)
