Fx-8320 Temps rise way to fast.

Hi guys,

A few weeks ago I orderd a new motherboard the asus m5a97 evo r2.0. So I had to apply thermal paste for the first time. I used te pea method. But when I started my pc the idle temps were 40c. So I reapplied it again like 4 times still the same temps. Before this I had a M5A78L-M/USB3 motherboard wich could barely run my cpu, so thats why I upgraded. But the temps were better on that.

-I used a Corsair Hydro H55 Cooler and on the first motherboard (M5A78L-M/USB3) I didn't have to put thermal paste on it because it came pre applied with the h55.

-On the second motherboard (m5a97 evo r2.0) the cpu runs way better (no throtling anymore) but I had to applie my own thermal paste (scraped of the old paste from the h55 cleaned it with 97% alcohol). for that I used Arctic Silver 5 and a pea method.

But my problem is, when I start the pc for the first time of the day. My idle temps are 27C. as soon as I start browsing the internet. watching video's and stuff it go's up to 38c to 44c. And after that it wont go down anymore it will stay 38 to 44c idle with everything closed. And when I start a game it go's up to the mid 50's. But as soon as a play a game a bit to long it will go all the way up to 60 to 65c. And the package temps will go to 60c when loading maps in advanced warfare. Max temps for package is 62c so 60 seems a bit to high.

I wanted to do some overclocking but when I run prime95 on stock voltages (no asus turbo) my temps will rise so fast above the Max temps of the fx8320 that I cant even run it for 2 minutes.

Cpu temp go's to 70 realy fast. and before its 70 my Package temps are almost 62c already. So then I will shut it down. I still think the thermal paste is the problem but I am realy clueless.

Hardware:
-Case : Bitfenix Neos. 2 Corsair sp120's intake fans in the front.
-Cooler : Corsair h55 Pushing air out in the back of my case as Push/Pull with 2 Corsair sp120's
-Motherboard : m5a97 evo r2.0
-Gpu : Radeon r7 265
-PSU : Seasonic 600w Bronze

I even upgraded it with these 4 corsair sp120 fans but that didn't help much. maybe 2c or something.

I hope u guys can help me.

Like what everyone else is saying above, in order for the thermal paste to be effective, you need to wait for it to settle or otherwise it will get worn out. The temps that you have said are quite good as I think 70 is the max for amd cpus.

This assumes the obvious that you have no dust build up on your desktop and that your fans and cooling system are working the way it should.
I wouldn't take the temps to seriously just yet.... you have to keep in mind that thermal paste has a settle in time and as an example Artic Silver 5 they recommend 200 hours. It's also recommended that you don't do any overclocking or stress testing during that time either.

Here is the instructions straight from there site.

Break-In Period Explained:
Due to the unique carrier fluid used and the shapes and sizes of the thermally
conductive particles in Arctic Silver's thermal compounds it will take multiple
thermal cycles to achieve maximum particle to particle thermal conduction and
for the heatsink to metal cap interface to reach maximum conductivity. (This
period will be longer in a system without a fan on the heatsink.) On systems
measuring actual internal core temperatures via the CPU's internal diode, the
measured temperature will often drop slightly to significantly over this "break-in"
period. This break-in will occur during the normal use of the computer as long as
the computer is turned off from time to time and the interface is allowed to cool.
Break-In Period by Thermal Compound:
Arctic Silver 5:
Break-in period: 200 hours (Break-in period will occur during normal use.)
Temps will drop several degrees over the break-in period measured with a thermal
diode in the hottest part of the CPU core.

I am thinking you need to let the thermal paste settle. But maybe your cooler is badly put in place. Although those temps are not too terrible if you ask me. Just wait a few days and then post back to let us know if its any better

So how much would it help if I use my pc for 200 hours at stock speed of 3.5 and stock voltage. Because stock voltage is 1.35 or something. and it gets realy hot in advanced warfare. But what i did is overclock it from 3.5 ghz to 4ghz and put the voltage lower on 1.3 and it runs cooler then stock :O (still to hot). and no problems what so ever. I am just not seeing why my temps are rising so fast to almost the max of the cpu in games. I dont care about idle but If i want to overclock I need to test with prime95 i need to be able to run the test at least 15 minutes. But I can never make it when my temps are at the max after 2 mintues.

I would first wait for the break-in period, then check the temps again. Especially since a lot of times the temps aren't accurate for AMD chips until you hit 40C anyway.

However...

My FX-8320, while running at stock speeds, is using the stock cooler & thermal paste, & generally stays around "40C or less" when idle, & usually only hitting 55-58C when gaming in BF3/4. So if your temps at stock speed keep running high, especially with an aftermarket cooler, then something is definitely up.

Yeah man thats exactly what i thought. everywhere i keep reading people have better temps with stock cooler then me with the h55. My Load definitly reaches in the 60's after playing advanced warfare for a while. and prime95 go's way higher then that.

I exadently pushed the ebst solution button srry for that.

My system is completely clean , since i just put in the enw motherboard i wanted it to be clean. Also inside my canse it doesn't feel hot at all only at the cpu part it feels hot.

But indeed i think i will report after these 200 hours. Its pretty long to wait but i will try. BTW it has been a while ago since i put in the new motehrbaord and i am using it for at elast a week now.

I will do that man, I use my pc like almost the whole day so the hours wont be a problem , I turn it on when i am awake and off when i am going to sleep or away. (not using it all those hours its just on ;p)
