Hey there.

As for my hardware I have the GA-790A-UD3, and a zalman CNPS12X cooler.

My temps taken from core temps and CPUID monitor shows idle temps at around 9-12C. Under prime95 stress it goes up to roughly 28C.

I'm concerned that the 9C-12 degree isn't accurate since its around 20C inside. Though I can feel the coolers are blowing relatively cold air.

Is this common is my cooler just that good or should I be concerned and do something? I will be overclocking it though I am to be sure everything is fine before hand.

Solution

Very curious indeed, surely check what this person says and try and alternative program like "realtemp" award winning program known for its accuracy.

So yeahh i think it doesnt monitor the temps well enough.

Well, this board's chipset is not natively support fx processor series..
790 and 890 chipset class is known for unreliable sensor of cpu temperature..

well, watch your temp with other software.
AIDA, Speedfan, hw monitor etc..

Stress it with prime or ibt or whatever, and watch, the the value which is have faster value to change to bigger value, then that's you cpu temp..

I checked the temp in the BIOS and it stated the temps were 23-24C. It seems more probable. I'll try more reliable temp software that you guys have provided.

It states on the motherboard box that it supports FX processors. It's revision 3?

I tried with AIDA64 and still shows my temps to be roughly 8C. Though seems to be more accurate for my northbridge 28C and my GPU diode 37C. Is it possible to get the BIOS reading when im already logged into my computer?

then try it once more again with speedfan..

I tested with everything I had.

Here are the results. http://postimg.org/image/k8oiy6y6l/

Keep in mind that one of the windows says the minimum was 30 thats becasue I opened it after the test was running.

So you saying that the highest value is my temp? Should I be concerned about my north bridge temperature when overclocking? Does this need to be below 60C?

There are two temperature readings: CPU Socket, and CPU Core.

The first set you have witnessed was more than likely the CPU Core temperature readings. CPU Core temperature readings are fed through a type of "weighted equation" that allows the sensor to give more accurate readings when at full load. The downside is that, when idle, the readings are weird, and often sub-ambient.

CPU Socket temperatures are vice-verse. They are great for idle temperatures, but display temperatures that are 5-15C higher than what they probably should be when at load.

So, cross-reference with multiple temperature monitoring programs and see if you can figure out, for sure, which is which.

............ Or it could be because of compatibility issues.

Thanks for your reply. How do I tell which temp is the CPU socket and which is the CPU core temps?

With whatever programs that display which temperature settings open, leave your computer at idle for a bit. Take note of the ones that are "sub-ambient" and the ones that seem more reasonable (they should be 5-10C, roughly, above ambient temperature.) Then start up Prime95, and let it run for about 15 minutes. That should be more than enough time for things to heat an equilibrium. Unless you have an abysmal cooling set-up, the read-outs should be fairly approximate to one another; the one with the "weird" idle temperatures will probably be a bit lower, while the one with the "reasonable" idle temperatures will probably be hotter, although it's possible for them to be the same temperature.

With that said and done, bam, you've at least found your CPU Core temperatures.

i agree with quaddro. mobo isnt the best for your cpu. n abou your temperature i'v many questions to ask, but the most important....mahn, do you live in the atlantic?????!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 8320 is one hell of a processor. n its hot(literally. are u sure of the software readings? coz it still is 10 degrees higher then the outside temperature over here in india! it is hot, so they gave a quicker cooler! check again. and i dont know man, how come you keep that cool to a cpu which consumes 125w??????????!!!!!!!!!!!
