Hey guys!

I will be getting a new PC soon, and have to decide which CPU will be the best for me.
My budget for cpu and mobo is around 220€, i plan to pair this CPU with a Sapphire r9 270 OC dual-X.

So i wanted to run the fx 8320 on Gigabyte GA-990XA-UD3 and OC it to approx. 4.5ghz
the i5 4460 was meant to run on ASRock H81M-HDS since it cant OC anyway..

So which of these would be a better choice? Or are there any other possible solutions which would be better for gaming purposes?

Greetings Michael

PS excuse my bad english please

When it comes to AMV vs Intel, you cannot compare clock vs clock and call it a day.
Even if you will OC the 8320 to 4.5Ghz, most of the times the i5 4460 will outperform the AMD one.
For the best performance at this price range, go for the i5 4460 CPU with a compatible motherboard.

Gaming performance is somewhat relative to the game in question, as some will favour one processor over the other. In the majority of cases, where most games are fine with two cores, the i5 makes more sense. It's also much quieter, runs cooler and uses far less energy.

The only thing you may want to consider changing is the motherboard, and that's purely because as things stand, it isn't compatible with the new 14nm processors that Intel will be releasing. A BIOS flash may fix that, but there's no guarantee. If upgrading isn't a concern, then it's a moot issue.

First of all thank you for the fast answers.
So I should go for I5.
Well I wanna ask if there is any other possibilities I should consider, like another gpu etc. So I have around 400€ to spend on the GPU, CPU and mobo. I will be getting 8 gb of RAM and already have a ssd + hdd combo and a decent PSU. So the budget for gpu, gpu, mobo and ram ist around 450€, 500€ if it's worth the upgrade. I aim only to get the best gaming performance, I won't be doing any other tasks on this PC. I'm not going to upgrade in the near future, I usually get a whole new PC everything few years. I will be playing "next-gen" games and also older games, some mmos, but mostly bf3/4 and the upcoming witcher 3.

Sincerely, Michael

Some people instantly go for Intel because the products perform similar. Try comparing them as if they are from the same brand. In my opinion AMD wins in this one because it's price performance rate is excellent compared to the Intel cpu. This is q classical mistake, Intel or AMD is better which is totally not true because both brands have an endless amount of different models from different classes qualities and performances. People tend to generalize over brands which is wrong in my opinion. Don't listen to Intel or AMD fans and try to find arguments about why it's better and watch reviews.

Be fan of Performance/Price ratio 😀

@ marwan051 - you are right, in a way.
Here`s an example of price/performance, and let me know what you think, please:

I am the customer, and want the fastest car I can get to commute to work and back.
Car "A" has 100 mpg, top speed of 80 km/h, and costs 10.000 nuggets.
Car "B" has 40 mpg, top speed of 150 km/h, and costs 20.000 nuggets.

If I want the fastest car, what will my choice be? I`ll let you answer that.

It`s not all about price per performance, until you compare two CPU`s from two different manufacturers who output exactly or around the same performance (see R9 280x vs GTX 770).
When we have two (or more) CPUs that give you different performance, it`s hard to only take into account price/performance.

In this case both cars have very different speeds price and mpg usage (I suggest mpg is British for Mile Per Gallon I am Dutch). Let's say both cars go 150 km/h, Car A is 10.000 nuggets and car B is 15.000 nuggets. Now car A uses 100 mpg and car B 75 mpg. In this case we compare it with gallons and each gallon costs 3 dollar which makes a difference of 75 pounds in an hour which you earn back in about 6.5 hours driving, in CPU's and power consumption the prices are very different and in the case of power consumption it might consume some more or less power but the differences are never as big as with fuel and cars. Now if you still aren't happy go look for another comparison or calculate the difference of power usage yourself and send it back to this post to confront me again with another useless comparison the difference might be about 1 euro a month we're not talking about electric cars or clubs in your garage ao after all you will safe 12 euros a year at normal/gaming usage and if you can find the on/off button on your case or in your GUI now tell me how long it takes to make up the money and was it worth it?

You still didn`t get it.
You can`t say that both cars go 150 km/h, that`s the whole point of it.
It`s like saying an Fx 8350 and an i5 4690K have the same performance output. Well, they don`t. One is cheaper, with good price/performance, and the other gives you a lot more processing power, which comes for more cost.

You are still stuck in the price/performance mindset.
If someone cares more about the performance that he wants, we will not go with the cheaper option.
