Hey guys, right now I tried over clocking my 8350 to 4.3. I boosted up the voltage to 1.4850v. I rebooted and opened core temp and prime 95. Started up prime 95 and 3 of my cores stopped working. My temps didn't go above 36C. Any idea what I'm doing wrong ? Thank you!

Oh sweet jeebus. Yeah, your VRM is probably overheating, so it is throttling - which explains why your temperatures are so low.

The board is a fairly old (even by AM3+ standards) AM3+ board, with "only" 4+1 phases to its VRM. It does support the FX-8350, but only at stock settings. I wouldn't be surprised if you experienced throttling at stock speeds as well.

So, if you really want to do some overclocking, you'll need to upgrade your motherboard. However, honestly, 4.0ghz is fine. Some games might experience a moderate boost, but, for the most part, anything above 4.2ghz isn't worth it.

I have a gigabyte 78lmt usb3 mobo. 600 watt power supply w/ a r9 280 gpu. And that's the first speed over the original. Originally my CPU is at 4 ghz or 4.2 with Amd boost or something like that.

Well that's exactly what I thought. So I tried with no voltage boost and I get a unstable problem. Very choppy and then eventually my PC blue screens. So when this happened when I went to 4.3 I assumed it was voltage. Tried it but that's where I ended up failing.

Yea you're right, my 8350 runs great. I don't need to overclock it, it's more of a "let's see if I can"

its a good combo but i think i will replace my r9 280 with a r9 290x when the r9 390 comes out. I hope that will make the price drop on the r9 290x
I only play games in 1080p so I think i will be good for some time with that upgrade.

That's what I was thinking too. Unless the 380 is at reasonable price when it comes out. But 290x would be more than good for 1080p
