FX-8350 and an Asrock N68-VS3 FX?

Solution
The Cryorig H7 is the best value air cooler on the market.

If you can't get that the Coolermaster 212 EVO is decent.

Your friend is wrong about AMD, its definitely not better, it is cheaper, but you need a new board anyway negating most savings
Will it boot and run? Yes. However DO NOT buy a 125w tdp FX processor for that board. The only 8 core FX processors you should consider are the FX-8320e and the FX-8370e if they are even still available. They are both 95w tdp. If you try to use an 8350 you will have nothing but stability problems.

im really wanting to get a 4GHZ processor, is there a cheap ish motherboard that would work with one and a GTX 760?

Cheap motherboards + 125w tdp processors end in tears... every time, don't do it. If I would even reccomend an AMD FX at this time I would tell you to get a 8+2 phase VRM board, preferably at least a 970 chipset or a 990FX.

However being that you don't even own this, don't waste your money on it.

Buy yourself an i3-6100 and a cheap H110 or B150 motherboard. It will demolish the AMD and probably be cheaper.

Will the i3-6100 be anywhere near as powerfull as the I7-4790K or the FX-8350 for gaming? i originally wanted the I7-4790K but my friend recommended the 8350 thinking it would be easier since it has the same socket as my current motherboard.
and by cheap motherboard i meant preferably around £100

The i3-6100 would demolish the FX-8350 for gaming. The i7-4790K would also demolish the FX-8350.

The only reason to buy an FX processor right now is if you are looking to replace the one in your motherboard and change nothing else. Otherwise that platform is dead, old, and a waste of money.

You can get the i3 for around $125 US and motherboards for around $50 US, that should convert to well within your budget range.

what is your current build that your upgrading?

So if i buy this

and this

i should be able to play games better than with my current FX-4100 and better than if i were to buy an I7-4790K?
the games im hoping to be able to run are the modern/next gen releases like Arma3, Arma2 and Battlefield 1 when it is released if that helps.

My current specs are
motherboard: Asrock N68-VS3 FX
graphics card: GTX 760
power supply: CX600
CPU: AMD FX-4100

and i have just over £300 to get it to be able to play high end/laggy games like Arma2, Arma3 and Battlefield 1 when its released.

No,

An i7-4790k would beat that handily. However that setup would be far faster than a FX-4100 or an FX-8350.

The FX-8350 and i7-4790k are not on a level playing field, I don't know who told you that but they are extremely wrong. The 4790k is significantly faster. No matter what your motherboard will not run an FX-8350 properly.

Now if you are buying new you are better off with a Skylake which would be the i3-6100 or if you wanted to go nuts the i7-6700k however that CPU is over your budget for your total system.

Also for your budget the i3-6100 is the best bang for your buck to be able to play the newest games.

There is a website that is selling second hand I7-4790Ks for £207 ish, i heard that processors are the safest parts to buy second hand, they also have a warranty if they dont work or break and are checked by the shop to see if they work well. would it be a good idea to buy that and a Fatal1ty Z97 killer motherboard instead of an i3-6100?

That's good, that's what i was planning on getting but my friend told me that AMD would be better and cheaper and i would be able to keep my old motherboard, im pretty new to pc building so he thought that would be easier for me, is there a cheap heatsink/fan thing you can recommend for the i7-4790K that would work well?
